ultramax .223 ammo

Ive found some ammo my rifle realy likes (on paper)and I was wondering if anyone had tried it on coyotes.
Has anyone tried the ultramax 68 gr. hp on yotes? What do you think about it? My 1 in 9 barrel (16 inch AR) will give me 1 inch @ 100 yds groups with it - I think the gun could do better but I cant, YET. So if it would have the almighty "bang flop" effect -Or even better the "bang SMACK flop" effect then I will invest in some more. If not well , the quest for a decent factory ammo continues.
Im looking for a good solid killer, even if my shot isnt perfect (shoulderbone)-not that any of MY shots would be less than perfect /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif.Am I expecting too much out of my 'lil .223?

I shoot the ultramax, or the bulk from cabelas in the 55 gr sp's and it does well, I've also shot the 68 gr. loaded by black hills, shoots great but doesn't kill as well as the sp's. not to many "BANG,FLOPS in a box of the 68's unless you hit heavy bone. Try a sp or a v-max, ballistic tip for DRT's. BTW I shoot a 1/8 twist AR.

I have read where people say Ultramax is junk ammo...well that same junk ammo has produced a .3 group in a .223 Stealth that I own...I really like Ultramax...I have not tried the 68 gr you are asking about.
 
I shoot the .223 Ultramax 55gr ballistic tips, EXCLUSIVLEY! This is one dynamite round. I've dropped dogs at over 300 yards witht his round. I have been shooting this round now for about 4 or 5 years, and it is a true performer. Use it with confidance! At 100 yards, my 223, with 5 rounds, produces one ragged little hole you can cover with a dime! Everyone I've told about the ammo loves it, and uses it on every hunt. The ballistic tips seem to transfer most of the bullets energy into the target with little or no "pass-through". I've tried many different bullet weights and configurations, and have found the the Almighty Ultramax .223, 55gr ballistic tip drops them right NOW, and smack with authority. Good luck...Jeff.

Realy???!!! Not that I doubt anyone , I have heard so many horror stories about surface splash and runaway dogs that I thought maybe the 68gr would deliver that extra punch.
Maybe Im going too extreme?
 
They cost $18.50 a box, for 50 rounds! Buy a box, and if you don't like them, I'll send you the $18.50!!! .223 55gr Nosler ballistic tips...give 'em a try!
 
My .223 NEF Ultra rifle LOVES the Ultramax 40gr Nosler Ballistic Tips and the Ultramax 52gr HPs. They both consistantly shoot groups in the 0.5" range at 100 yards, and I get a lot of groups that are smaller than that. In my book, that's a pretty good deal for $19/box of 50 for the NBTs and only $14/box for the HPs. The 40gr NBTs are fantastic on ground squirrels. I haven't tried any of Ultramax's other offerings, but I'm sure they'll perform similarly well.

Ultramax has a lot of bad rumors about it. Probably because it's so accurate and inexpensive that some haters can't help but hate it. They assume if it's not "premium" meaning name brand and expensive, it must be junk.

Try it and see for yourself! Here's some test targets on 3x5 cards. I was messing around with the scope settings so ignore the different locations of the groups. Black Hills remanufactured costs the same as Ultramax and performs ALMOST as well on average.

Here is a typical 5 shot group of Ultramax 52 Grain HP's out of my Rem. 788. They do a very good job on coyotes too. I've never had a problem with them.

I've used some [50gr Ballistic Tip] a couple of winter. Out of my Bushmaster 20" 1:9 twist. It shot ok 1-1.5" groups @ 100yrds off of a bench. Hollow-Points shot lousy out of my gun.

On The coyotes, my Bro & I shot. 50gr Ballistic-Tips, did good on bone or tissue, 1"-2.5" exits.
