Unexpected night visitors

Called a couple of illegals up that were hunting for the wounded rabbit late one afternoon. I turned off the call when I saw them coming through the brush and they looked aroung a while before coming up the sendero toward our hide, got about 25' from us before we stood up to keep them from coming any closer. (We were in full camo, face masks and all). Scared heck out of them until they realized we weren't "la migra". Then all they wanted was water.

Back in the days of red lights I saw large eyes coming. Next thing I know this monster was tearing down small trees. I’m not talking little sticks it was tearing down trees. I was by myself and it was about 2am. I am crapping my pants at this point because that thing is pizzed off. Now I catch another one coming in. WTF!!! I then heard the unmistakable cow sound. It was two young steers that the farmer let out but failed to tell me. Thank god there was a fence between us. Scared me so bad I Pa led up and left. But I laughed all the way to my truck..

Similar for me once. pitch black, no moon, real quiet night. I doing 'calf distress' and sitting lower field. All cows and calves in the upper pasture barn for night . I hit the calve distress a couple times and then I hear and I can feel the ground as gets closer. The Biggest pissed off female was ground pounding fast down the field right toward my area looking for a calf. It was pretty intimidating to say the least, got my attention pretty fast.

Bulls at night can make a 'loud grumbling' when annoyed . Me and another guy were working a field at night with a herd that had a few older bulls in it. the bulls were off separate places bedded. We set the ecall out about 50 yrd from us, doing a few calls and working it for about hour, not much happening for Coyote, only seen a lone bobcat working in some thick brush to checkout the call . All the herd was scattered up and down the pasture different spots bedded, and they never move whole time we out there make call and scanning.
So we changed-up sound and Hit a Howl on the ecall, and we hear a loud grumbling of a bull off in the thick about 100 yards or more off in thick scrub trees. Can't see him on the Thermal, only hear him grumble a couple times. We keep scanning after the howl for dogs for while. Then I hit the call again with a good Howl, and that Bull get LOUD and you can hear him grumbling hitting the brush moving toward us . He comes snorting and pounding up right to the ecall on ground. I see my buddy getting pretty nervous, and I getting a little jumpy also with that big bastard just pounding in toward us.
The Bull is pretty good size mature, and he's stopped right in front of the ecall. So all I could think of doing, I just wave arms in air and make a few Loud ..." Hey hey hey." at him and he looks in our direction standing there, and then turns around and goes back to where he was bedded down.
No other bulls out there had made a sound, and the dominant Bull was up on the higher end bedded down all by himself and he never moved . But I would guess that single Bull had past history, hatred for Coyote. Probably got harassed when younger, or seen few calves tore up. Be he quickly got a Real Bad Case of the RedAss Fast for the Coyote Howling in his backyard.

First thing I ever called in predator hunting was a black bear. I was still a teen, hunting alone, rem 870 s.mag with 3.5" turkey loads.
No lights, just a shotgun, a squeeze style rabbit call, and ambition. Pre cell phone too.

I was standing behind a round bale, in a field on the edge of a timber swamp, making my best impression of a dying rabbit when all the sudden I hear big sticks breaking and something headed my way.
I kept wailing away on the call, shotgun at the ready, about 50 yards away a 250 maybe 300# bear pops outa the brush. At 30 yards i yelled at him and he ran off as scared as I was...

Now its e-callers set away from me, thermal scanners, cell phones, and buffer zones. Still occasionally find a bear when chasing coyote & coon.
