Urine Misting bags coyote!

So I'm on my second set this morning. The wind was brisk out of the SW. So I go set my Foxpro upwind/crosswind from me. As I was walking back to the small hill I was going to sit at, I start misting the air and sagebrush. I get to my location sit down, position my gun, etc., and start my caller. No sooner I do this, as I am in fact pushing the up volume button, I look downwind, and there is a coyote at about 60 yards just standing there. I about crapped. He wasn't even looking at me, he was looking straight upwind. He had to have been there, or just passing through, but I also think the urine smell had him completely occupied.

I repositioned my shooting sticks and let him have it. Down he went.

I have misted in the past, but now I won't leave home without it. I was sure to bring it today, when I had two coyotes bust me last weekend on a similar set about a mile away. These came in crosswind and circled downwind, just as I was getting positioned they fled. BUSTED.

Give it a try.

Displayed Name.... Ya I was wondering if someone would comment on the topic header. It got your attention didn't it? So to go further, no I wasn't marking my territory as I was setting up. (LOL) It is a mixture of different ANIMAL urines, since I trap, I have plenty. I put in a spray bottle.

I also trap as well as call. Can you explain how you mist a area? Do you just spray some coyote/cat urin as you walk to set up your e-caller? Thanks

got my first tripple misting on stand every 3-4 minutes with fox & rabbit, now I use Tony's stuff seems to hold then a little longer or bring them in a littel closer

How would you keep that from dripping after spraying. What about getting on you and then getting into your ride? I don't think I would like the truck smelling like coyote stink.

I have been using Dr. Charles Shawley's WU formula as a cover scent in a misting canister for several months and do notice a slight edge, his theory in coyote 101 e-book is to try and overload the dogs sense of smell and sight, this will give you a slight edge (10 to 15 seconds) I need all the extra time I can get, a few more yards, a few more seconds often time is the difference between a good kill and not seeing the dog at all.

Mine is a combination of bobcat and fox urine. When I get a coyote, I harvest the urine after I skin the animal, and add to the bottle. I imagine anything will work however, the cheaper the better. So for the setup. I usually set my foxpro/decoy at about 50 to 60 yards or so, I prefer on the crosswind. I pay the most attention to the downwind areas. On my way to where I am going to sit, I spray the urine, a few squeezes on an occasional tumble weed or bush. I'm sure most of it just drifts where ever, but the remaining on the bush will keep the air smelled up. Then I spray downwind of me where I am sitting.

Now for getting on your hands/clothes/boots, etc. [beeep] I trap, after a day of setting traps I'm sure I am loaded with smelly stuff. I do carry a package of those anti-septic wipes too, not the baby ones. I try not to get in on me, but if the wind is blowing I obviously spray downwind of me. But even then, I can smell the urine so I imagine I am getting some on me.

I'm telling you this is really worth trying. After what I witnessed the other day, I'm sold on it. This coyote had absolutely not a care in the world other than looking upwind, he was completely confused!

I had a similiar experience last feb. We set up in the only good spot where I had heard some coyotes howling that morning. When I went in to hunt I sprayed some coyote urine as well as cottontail. I did some challenge and mating calls for awhile and had immediate response not far away from 2 dogs. They would not come in and I thought it was because we had been winded due to the wind blowing straight down into the draw. I switched it to the cottontail and it was not 10 seconds and the 2 were charging in at 10 yds. It was getting close to dusk and snowing and I had a hard time finding one in the Leupold. Hit the one and the other took off running. My Kimber jammed on the reload and only got one more shot off, but it was intense. I am convinced if I had not sprayed the urine cover scents that would have been zero results. Our wind was blowing straight to them.
