Y'all can think of me what you will, but this one turns my stomach. I've had too many folks in my family shed their own blood for this flag. I've shed tears at my Uncle's funeral when the Marines folded his flag and handed it to my grandmother, and other times to some of my aunts, and I've come close to tears watching that flag climb up a flagpole on an occasion or two.
And for a school to come out and tell kids they can't wear the flag, that we've all pledged our allegiance to, before God and Country, that just hits home to me what sort of world and country this is becoming. I've got a brother that's still out there - giving his own blood, sweat and tears every day, in Iraq, Korea, and wherever else Uncle Sam sends him. And it absolutely makes me sick to think that THESE are the sorts of folks he puts his life on the line for every day. And every day it seems there's more of 'em.
I don't want to get too far off the deep-end with this, but it just really hurts - deep down inside. If it was my kid, I'd have taken the day off work and been down there, sitting next to my child if need be, and DARE any of 'em at the school to complain about my kid wearing an American Flag if they wanted to.
I can see and somewhat understand if they want to prohibit flags from other countries -- this isn't those countries, and we haven't sworn allegiance to any other flags. But don't tell kids they can't wear Old Glory to school if they want to.
This really makes me sick.

High School Bans American Flag
Tuesday, Sep 11, 2007 - 11:56 PM Updated: 06:40 AM
SAMPSON COUNTY, N.C. - On the sixth anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, students at one high school were not allowed to wear clothes with an American flag.
Under a new school rule, students at Hobbton High School are not allowed to wear items with flags, from any country, including the United States.
The new rule stems from a controversy over students wearing shirts bearing flags of other countries.
Gayle Langston said her daughter, Jessica, was told to remove her Stars and Stripes t-shirt.
“Today she wanted to wear her shirt, and I had to tell her no,” said Langston. “She didn't like it at all because I knew it would get her in trouble. Of all days, 9/11, she could not wear her American Flag shirt.”
The superintendent of schools in Sampson County calls the situation unfortunate, but says educators didn’t want to be forced to pick and choose which flags should be permissible.
