Using Deer Stands for Pred Hunting?

I've been thinking of using deer stands for predator hunting, day or nite. Most deer hunting in Texas is done from stands, usually box stands that will not only conceal your movements but sounds too. With an E-caller it seems this would be a good way to hunt coyotes or fox. On our lease we have five box stands, two of which can hold two people.

Anyone tried this?

Just depends on your operation. If you manage or have resident deer you might wanna refrain for fear of having certain deer go on to neighboring ranches if its not high fenced, but if its neither here nor there Im sure it would work just as sitting up on a windmill or up in a tree.

Ive called from sitting on many a pumpjacks and took several this way. Coyotes keep there eyes on the ground and never think to look up on an old pumping unit. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

lwmabra,

Yes, it will work day or night. The only problem I had was that the visibilty was limited. Shining out the windows was a pain. I found it better to sit on top of the box. Tree stands or a tripod work better. Lots cooler too.

Welcome to the board.

hunt around them , that's were i hiding my truck under when i call from it . it blends right in /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

and i do

Ninehorses is right. Daytime is OK, but trying to shine a light out of one sucks. You light up the stand and can't see everything either. I tried it once in a open field, and the yote came up somehow w/o me seeing it and was right below me when I saw him. He made it to cover behind me beforeI could get the gun out the back window. Dang thing hung up on everything, it's just too tight in a stand to use a light. In mine anyway.
