Using jack rabbit sounds where there are no jack rabbits?

Will jack rabbit sounds work here in missouri where there are no jack rabbits. Or would it be better to stick with the cottontail?

any distress sound will work in any area whether or not that prey species exists in that area or not. Some will work better than others that same as existing prey species sounds. Snow shoe hare works great here and I assure you we got no snow shoes in Texas!
 
For most sounds it would be better if they were called small or medium sized distress sounds. Most people have never actually ever heard a real rabbit in distress, all they have heard is the sounds of the various calls and or the electronic versions....
 
I use jack rabbit sounds more than I do cottontail here in WV. And theres a many a miles between here and the nearest jack rabbit.
