Its been quite a few years now. But back when I was doing some hand calling. I mainly used a Crit'R call pee wee. Mainly because it was able to make high pitched sounds. It took me roughly 1 week until I became quite good with it. One call sound I made with it was a high pitched fawn bleat. Being good at voice impersonations. I thought I would try my own voice to make a fawn bleat. It didn't take much practice until I had that sound mastered. I believe with some practice (any of you) can also do it.
What I would do is. Tighten my throat muscles ie; closing my vocal cords. Then forcing out my lung air. Saying the words; meeee-ant.
Once I got good at making that sound. I tried it on a stand one day. It was on an abandoned farm. With a high weedy dirt mound on the edge of the farm yard. The mound over looked a timbered draw. A few hundred yards down a steep hill. No predators responded. But I did call in a stomping/snorting Doe deer within maybe 6' away from me. I also called in a feral cat. It stopped around 20' away from me. Being a dog guy. I did put my crosshairs on the cat's forehead & had a chuckle.
