V Max Round for 22-250?

I would like to know what weight bullet you guys shoot from a 22-250 round for coyotes, fox, etc.
I currently have shot a tremendous amount of papaer at both 100 and 200 yards with 40 Grain V Max but never have shot a coyote YET. I would love some input on a "best" bullet size for a go to round.

Am I OK with the 40 grain V max, or should I go heavier?

The 40 will get the job done and shoots pretty fast and flat.
However I have found the 50 gr to be better for knockdown plus better in wind.
Some prefer the 55gr.
My favorites are 50 Winchester supreme ballistic tip. Remington Accutip and 55gr psp for close or brushy areas. The PSP will give the most consistent minimal pelt damage. Stay away from the large bones with all for best performance.
 
You will probably see some splashes on shoulder shots with the 40. Pretty light for a .22-250. We had great luck with the 60 grain V-max on the coyotes we shot with it.
 
I shoot the 55gr and 60gr V-Max bullets without any problems. I think the 40gr are a little lite for coyotes and you may have a runner or to if shot placement isn't perfect.
 
If it makes any differance I am handloading and so far have found that H380 and Varget give me the best groups.
If I go you the 50,55,60 grain area what powders do you suggest?
Working up an accurate load is almost as much fun as coyote hunting;-)
 
try some 52gr bthp bullets there really good and accurate, and i find them a little cheaper around here than the vmax bullets, at least from where i buy mine, and h380 is good, but varget is a extreme powder so i would shoot that.
 
Everyone says my powder burns too slow, but I have excellent accuracy with IMR4350 and the 55 gr Nosler BT from a Rem 700 with 1 in 14 twist.
 
I use 34gr of Benchmark and push a 55gr Nosler BT. I tried to move up to a 60gr vmax but it just doesnt shoot tight enough for me. My 22-250 has a 1:14 TR and its just too slow for the heavier pill.
 
To accurately help with your answer it is important to know what the twist is in your barrel. You have to watch shooting the heavier loads with the 1-14 twist barrels. I shoot the heavier loads, 50 to 60 gr., but have a barrel riffled in 1-12 twist. By the way, I don't shoot anything other than V-Max 55gr.

Didn't see reloading but Sierra Blitzking has worked well for me and the Nosler or Combined Tech(same as Winchester factory) do well also.
Varget has worked over a broad range of temps here.
 
I use 55gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips because I like big holes and very dead coyotes.

My TC Encore barrel shoots lights out with the 40gr bullets. I pondered on this question myself when I was searching for a coyote round but found that particular rifle will not shoot a heavier bullet very well. With my 40gr it shoots little bug holes out at 100yds. All other heavier bullets opened up to about a 2in group. So I told myself I would give up a little knock down power to be able to put the shot exactly where I wanted it. By the way I have shot plenty of coyotes that have dropped right in their tracks. Hope this helps but it is only my two cents worth.
