i have plenty of rifles, but want to build a custom in a versitle doall caliber and just wondering what you guys would choose. i have 243,308,300wm,338 etc for big game but want something different.

Like i said i have a 338 for Moose and big bears etc, so what i want is basically wolf, antelope, deer, sheep, blackies, etc.

I am thinking a 280AI in a Rem Mtn rifle type setup. what do you guys think?

any and all opinions are appreciated, just throwing ideas around right now.

Both the 260 Rem and the 284 Win in a light weight configuration would make for great mountain rifles, at least for me they both have.

Most versatile Do-All rifle for western big game. Man that is simple!! Tom.

How about the good old 270win. In a Rem mtn rifle with a lightweight scope. You could carry that thing all day. I know it isn't the latest wiz-bang ubber cool ctg, but it was at one time. Besides it still holds it's own against the new stuff.

A few ounces lighter than a long action. You said you want something different, and I'd bet there are more 280's around than 260's. High BC bullets for long range stuff, less powder/recoil. What's not to like?

As to AI-ing it, I think the 260 is maybe the cartridge that is least 'improved' by ackley-izing it.......

And with the 95 V-Max, it doubles as a varmint rifle.......

If your having one made to order I see little reason not to go with the .280 AI, if you reload. The 6.5-06 is another very good off beat cartridge worth considering if your not afraid of having a wildcat.
