We've had a warm period this week after what's been a pretty cold winter here in Michigan. Tuesday night a buddy and I decided to go out and call. He got to my place around 8pm and as soon as he got out of his truck, coyotes started sounding off in a wood lot across the street (I really gotta ask the owner for permission to hunt). We took this a good sign as we got ready to head out. We arrived at our first stand and as soon as we got out we heard howls in the distance. We setup up and called for 40ish minutes but got nothing so we packed up and went to a different spot. On our second stand we had a game plan but when we started into the field we heard some coyotes sound off to the north of us. We made our move and set-up where we thought they would be. After messing around trying to find the optimal spot we settled in and began calling all the while we were hearing coyotes around us and in the distance. We called for about 10 min when we had this male show up from out southwest. He made it to 160ish yards when my buddy spotted him. He shot him twice with his 22-250 and when we walked up to him he got up and hobbled into a large pool of water. I ended up putting another one in him. We drug him back to our tripods and at that moment we had 3 coyote groups begin to yip and howl around us. It was a pretty cool experience. We called for a bit longer and we thought we saw another but he never present a shot. It was 1 am by then so we decided to call it since I had to work in the morning.
