Vmax Vs. Bobcats Pictures

Hello All,

I was wondering if anyone has pics of Vmax kills on a Bobcat hopefully from a 22-250 if you could show the fur damage it would be greatly apprecieated. All other kill pics with this bullet would be nice to see as well.

No pics of a bobcat, and some of the pics from coyotes are to graphic to display.

My son shoots a 223wssm, and for 2 years his load was a 60gr Vmax @ 3,700+fps. Some shots you could not see any exits. On other shots, wow!

The 2nd coyote I shot with this combo was an average female at about 170yds, facing me. At the shot, I heard the bullet 'wap' and saw a fluff of coyote fur floating on the breeze. While I am looking at this, I notice an object falling out of the sky, and thought to myself 'is this a dead bird?'. The object turned out to be a chunk of coyote fur, maybe 6-8" long. The bullet exited between the shoulder blades and stripped a large patch of fur off.

At very high velocities, the Vmax can be brutal on fur.

Your story reminded me of taking a new predator hunter hunting two years ago. He didn't have a suitable rifle so I let him use my .243 Remington Model Seven Predator. At the time I was using the 87 gr. V-Max, velocity was probably around 3,150 fps. The new predator hunter guy is a "gunny type" guy and on the ride we talked about cartridges and loads. When bullets came up I mentioned I had moved away from the 75 gr. V-Max because it was soooo destructive.

I called his first called coyote that came on the run and he smoked it at only 12 steps! Man was he excited. After the stand was over we walked over to the coyote and examined it. He mentioned he wanted to have it mounted and I rolled it over... the opposite shoulder was missing in action. For some reason I glanced up and hanging about ten feet above our heads was a patch of coyote hide the size of a mans glove stuck on a tree branch. After pointing it out to him he said, "And these are LESS destructive?!!!"

I went back to my old favorite Sierra 85 gr. HPBT GameKing. They're a little tougher than the V-Max.
 
It really seems some swear by them and others swear off of them. I watch alot of predator hunting shows and without naming any or throwing under the bus there are a few that and I assume due to sponsorship claim these are the bullets of bullets. and these are guys that go to the fur trade even. Thanks guys for the info I hope we get some more and with pics.

Here are some photos of animals I have shot with 55 grain vmax both with the 22 250 and 223.

You can see the exit wound right behind its front shoulder dropped on the shot... 22 250 55 grain vmax.

This cat was shot with a 22 250 55 grain vmax clipped his front leg cause he was charging so hard on an angle. Cat dropped on the spot just messed his leg up a tou

This cat was shot in the throat base of neck with a 223 55 grain vmax. No damage to the pelt.


Cant find other pictures where you can see any type of exit...
I really like the vmax and will be using them again this fall...

My brother shot a cat with a 204 vmax at 30 yards and had a golf ball sized entry. Knocked the cat down, it got up and made it about 30 yards before expiring. I imagine there were several factors involved including range and shot angle. (Bullet hit the shoulder as the cat was quartered to him.) It was kind of an ugly hole, but the taxidermist got it patched up and rugged for him.
 
I can show you what a 40 gr V Max at 3500fps from a 1/12 twist does.

In all fairness sometimes they did ok and the coyotes I shot I had some short distance runners but no splashes.I did not notate this but on the two top Bobcats those are splash wounds as you are looking at the entrance wounds and that is as far as the bullet penetrated... the bottom picture is an exit wound and the bullet went thru.... all these Bobcats were shot within a few hours with one more wounded and not recovered.

thanks for the pics...do you have any of the animals after they were skinned out?

alot of people disagree with me. but when i hunt for pelt i use either match kings or fmj. because they stay together. and i dont care how you look at it. a hole in the heart is a hole in the heart. it will die.

So your guranteeing you can put the bullet in the heart every single time?

But many times "it" will cover a heck of a lot of ground before doing so.
 
And really if hunting for fur, your time is important. Tracking an animal shot with a FMJ for an hour or two is not making the best use of your time.

You could collect a lot more fur quicker with traps or snares.
