Vortec, or Barska scopes?

Has anyone tried these vortec brand scopes? Ive talked to a few dealers that say they are the next best thing.

How about the Barska brand? I dont know anything about them but they seem to have alot of good options for a inexpensive if not cheap scope.

Now.... I am not made of money but I understand the need for quality optics. Even though I would love to have one of them high dollar swaro scopes, I doubt I will ever have enough money to afford one. Id rather have two more guns for the same price as one scope. And ive heard nothing but bad about the new leupold stuff.

Thanks....

Chris

I am firmly against Barska....installed one for a customer who bought a rifle from the shop, and it would not zero/boresight. The adjustments just would not adjust enough. Crappy optics on high power also.

I'm in the same boat, I'd love to have the expensive optics, but just can't afford them. I've found Cabela's Pine Ridge scopes good optics for the money and their warrentee policy is as good as Leupold's.

I also like the Simmons AETEC scopes, but Simmons, Weaver and Redfield just got bought out by Meade optics and getting one fixed or exchanged is a nightmare. Took me six months to get a brand new in the box broken Weaver exchanged/fixed.

I haven't seen the Vortec, but I've looked thru a couple of the Barska's and can't say I was really impressed.

I dont know about a Vortec, but I wouldnt use a Barska to try and beat some sense into a democrat with.

If you could find a way to sharpen one end of it, it might make a good tent stake.

Keep looking- oh and you did not mention them, but the same goes for BSA scopes as well.

One thing I DONT need is a headache from looking thru cheap glass.

Yeah, don't waste your money on a Barska. You WILL be dissappointed in it. Instead look at the Bushnell Elite series in the 3200 line. Great optics for the price range. And if a fixed power in 10X interests you at all, the Bushnell Elite 3200 fixed 10X can be had for under $200 but it is more of a tactical scope. But boy is it a good piece of glass for just about any price range. I have a US OPTICS ST-10 on one of my .308's and the Bushnell 10X on another and I can just barely tell a differance in the two clarity wise.

Good Luck, hope that helped

Mueller and swift make some good inexpesive scopes, Weavers have been good for me, but haven't had to deal with customer sevice(I have six new models). Natchez Shooters supply have Bushnell 3200 2x7 Fireflies on sale for $119 right now.

Is the Vortec the scope that was put out on government Contract?

You ask about Barska. a poster on this board put his critique thusly, "looking through Barska glass was akin to looking at a urine sample through a Mason jar". I would have to agree. Even BSA(Barely See Anything) was better than Barska.

I'm not aware of any military contracts with any scope manufacturer by the name of vortec. Now SWFA has the navy contract for the Super Sniper scope and Bushnell Elite 3200 fixed 10X is the alternate scope for the Barrett M92 .50 cal sniper system when the Leupold's aren't available.

I must be part samon, always swimming aginst the tide. ng, i have 3 barskas you can look through, binocs, spotting scope, and the m16 acog i just got yesterday in a crushed ups box. It was packed in heavy foam and looks to be ok, if the wind dies down today i'll take it to the range and see.

The bottom line with barska in the past is you have a 50/50 chance of good or bad, if this new one is good, then it will be 60/40 good. Call me when you want to try them, blue

I bought a barska for the illuminated reticle and so far it has been a good scope, fairly clear and it survived on my ar what little that I did use it. Its on the CZ varmint now but I havent had a chance to take it out and shoot it yet.

Thats the one I was thinking of. Sometimes this 70 mind and computer bank do no work up to expectations.

You are right it is Vortex, not Vortec. I appologise, I had just got done battling with my local GM dealer about overcharging. I must have had GM on the brain. Thanks for the replies about the Barska, it appears that 75% of you if not more dont like Barska.

So how about Vortex? Anyone with experience?
