Vortex Crossfire scopes

It's been awhile since I posted on these forums but I am wondering if anyone has any experience with the Vortex Crossfire II line of scopes? I just picked up a Savage Axis on sale and the cheap Bushnell that came with it lasted all of 9 rounds of 223 before it gave up the ghost. I'd like to not spend more than $150 ish for a scope but I also want something that is going to last.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Tasco world class in 4-12. I used one for load work up for my 300 weatherby with no issues. I moved that scope to my 243 encore. The only issue that I have ever had with a tasco product was on a contender in 35 remington. After literally thousands of rounds the reticle broke. I sent it back and tasco fixed it and sent it back. I put it on my 44 Super black hawk hunter and have put hundreds of rounds through the gun since. It will serve you well for around 100 bucks.

Tasco is nowhere on any list of things I would recommend. For any price.

For a cheap scope that isnt utter crap, look at Sightron, Burris, or Redfield.

What magnification are you wanting? If you are wanting a 4-12x40, so far I would recommend the Nikon Prostaff. I bought one in September I believe it was, and have had zero problems with it SO FAR. For the price it is a very clear even on 12 power. You can usually find them for about $150-170 if you look. I know Third Generation Shooter Supply had them on close out for $145 but I don't know if they have anymore in stock. While I do own Vortex, I have no experience with the Crossfire II, but have heard they are a pretty decent scope for the money. The warranty is awesome from Vortex too. I broke my vortex viper (cause I am an idiot, not the scopes fault) and sent it to them on a thursday and had it back and mounted on the rifle within a week. Just my opinion! Good luck!

Thanks for the recommendations guys. I picked up a Nikon Buckmaster 4-12x40 at Cabela's today and this rifle is shooting lights out!

Just saw someone posted this on another thread in the optics section. Nikon Buckmasters 3-9 for $130 and the 4-12 for $150. Pretty sweet deal there!

The Buckmaster is a really good scope for a low price. I had a Vortex Crossfire 4-12x50 that I never liked. Could never get a sharp image. Vortex replaced it once and then 6 months later the new one would not hold zero. Sent it back and got a Diamondback 3.5-10x50 which is awesome! My next scope will be a Diamondback.

I have a couple of Vortex scopes, a Crossfire 6x18x44 and an HS Viper 4x16x50. I taken several coyotes this year with the Crossfire mounted on an AR in .223, from 100 to 225 yards. Holds zero and decent glass for the money. Vortex has impressed me all the way around.

Do you hunt at night any? If so,,how much light transfer difference do you see with the 44mm vs. 50mm at night if any?

Sorry no night hunting. Taking any game with an artificial light source is a no no, and didn't really have enough snow during a full moon.

I purchased the crossfire 2 4-12-44 last week and shot it this weekend. I put it next to a Nikon prostaff of the same power and the vortex seemed clearer and have a wider field of view than Nikon.

Im still kinda skeptical on the vortex though. I have to get back out to the range and be left alone and see how it performs. ive also got the same gun combo you have and that scope it came with is crap. wouldn't hold zero for nothing.

Very good choice for the money. The Vortex is a fine scope, but I prefer Nikon and I love the BDC's. I was personally impressed with the clarity of the Buckmaster and the ease of use. I would definitely recommend it for hunting.

I have a crossfire 2 and it seems no matter what i cant get the reticle to be in focus. Doesnt matter the power or my eye position.
I hate it personally....i have a redfield revolution and that is perfect for my eyes. Clear as a bell.
