Vortex Diamondback 4-12x40, Plex Reticle

I just sent my Diamondback in to the warranty center to have it checked out and I was wanting to see if any of you have experienced what I have with the same model of scope.

>Eye relief varies a lot between 4 and 12 power but it is very short at all higher powers.
>Eye position is very critical. I have to be perfectly aligned with the scope before I can see the target. Even from the bench I have to hunt for the target.
>At higher power settings the image is hazy and fuzzy around the outer edges. The target is not clear unless I refocus.
>The reticle needs refocusing whenever the power is changed


I have 8 or 10 scopes in that price range and this Diamondback is the only one that doesn't seem right to me. Anyone experienced the same problems as I did?

PS- I haven't heard back from the warranty center yet so I don't know what the outcome will be.
 
i once had the same scope you are talking about. got rid of it real fast for all the reasons you are asking about. will never own another vortex diamondback model.
 
Sounds like a vortex but I've only dealt with Crossfires and Vipers.

The scope was a real disappointment especially after all of the glowing reviews that I had read about it before ordering. I also have a Diamondback 3-9x40 and haven't had the same experiences as with the 4-12 scope. The 3-9 is actually pretty good.
I'm anxious to see what the warranty shop finds out and what they will do.

A couple days after sending the Vortex in for service I went ahead and ordered a Redfield Revolution 4-12x40 to replace the Diamondback. I haven't received it yet but if it's anything like the 2 Redfield Revolution 2-7 scopes that I've had for more than a few years, it'll also be great.
 
If the OP doesn’t mind me asking, what scope do you guys recommend in that price range of the Vortex?

I’ve got two Vortex Diamondbacks, and although I do like them, I understand what the OP is talking about. They are also not that great in low light conditions.

The one I’m referring to is $300. It’s a Vortex Diamondback Tactical.
 
I have several Diamondbacks and don't have any problems except on the Tactical version. It has the problems the OP is talking about.

then in that price range i would say leupold hands down.

I keep hearing great things about Leupold, I just need to buy one and get it over with.
 
I got a diamondback a couple years ago and got rid of it for similar reasons. Sold it to the grandson of a guy I hunt with. He loves it and thinks I was a fool for getting rid of it. I have a couple vipers I have no problem with, so probably a difference between the optics in my skull and the scope optics. If I were to buy another scope in that price range not sure what I would get, but would probably come here for opinions/advice.
