Walker questions.

I’m looking into a hound dog as a pet for my family and a hunter for me.

I really like the Walker’s. How are they with kids and in an average backyard environment?

Are they too high strung to live in a normal track home development?

Any help would be appreciated.

My dogs are outside on chains and in kennels, but I have had a couple of dogs get adopted by my family, and they did make good house dogs, I have had Labs that were indoor dogs and they compared about the same to my Walkers. I do belive that they both might need a little more outside time than other breeds. But as far as good with kids, I think they are better than most Labs.
I hope this helps with your questions.

Most walker dogs are very friendly, if treated right from a puppy. If you get one that hasn't been worked with much or always left on a chain and the only time he sees anyone is just feeding time, he'll probably be timid and not real playful. They love getting played with as much as the kids like playing with them. I'm sure they wouldn't be the best in the house though, they would rather be outside. But I believe walkers would make great pets as well as hounds. MOyotehunter

22 i have terriers as our famly pets. as for a people dog you cant be them.just my terrier i call casey. if im setting here at the puter he is laying at my feet. if i go to the bathroom he is waiting at the door when i come out. if i get a gun out he is all over me ready to go.if we go coon hunting he will run and track and tree coons.he knows when i have the hounds that we are running yotes. he will go with the hounds some times and will fight a yote with the best. if im pheasent hunting he will track a pheasnt he retrieved doves this year dove hunting. just a thought on what kind. you have to make sure you get one that is bred to hunt and not bred for a pet. as for potty traing he was one of the easyest to train.
