walkie talkie's for predator hunting?

Songdogslayer was mostly right, JK I have had bad luck with cobra's but the Motorola talk abouts have push button mics that work very well, we use the mwehn spotting for elk and deer and while we are hunting to keep in touch with the rest of our party. They are great little radios mine have gone through 4 good seasons, the cobra's only made it through one for me.

Hey guys, thanks for all the input. I ended up getting a Motorola 3 pack with the rechargable batterys that will also except AA alkalines in a pinch. They came with the charger and the ear buds with the push button mics. Found them at Costco for $89.00. There are three of us that hunt together on a regular basis and the country we hunt has lots of washes and gullies and we like to spread out and try to cover as many potential coyote routes as we can and sometimes we're out of each others sight. We ALWAYS discuss safety and establish our shooting lanes so we're not shooting into each other but like others have already said, we sometimes get up to leave only to find out someone else had one coming in. I think these will help a lot. I'm excited about trying them out this year.

Elks, are you sure that the use of radios is illegal in Co?I have talked to game wardens both elk hunting and coyote hunting and had the radios on and nothing was said. Dont remember reading that it was illegal. Thanks

Yes the regs read that it is illegal to use and electronic device in the taking of og ame. It specifically reads that devices such as radios, light scopes, etc. are not to be used in the taking of game. You can not say stuff like theres one over there and direct a person to an animal. what they can be used for are for communicating you location and meeting spots. They are not illegal to have, just illegal to make a kill using them. Hope that makes sense.

They require a Small Game Licsence, so I am assuming so. They can be hunted year round and unlimited number, but they aer considered a small game spieces as far as i can tell. I understand the ngle your working, but when calling the Bobcats, and fox may come to, i gues I could double check wit hte DOW, but it seems to be a grey area where the officer might think of it either way.

With our game department if there is a grey area they issue a citation and the judge usually backs them on game violations.

See, now I can understand that. If calling a yote, even though you don't need a liscense or residency in UT to hunt them, you could possibly call in a bobcat or mtn lion.

As was mentioned earlier in this thread, the Coyote Doctors use the radios and find them extremely helpful. It is important to us that we have the cameraman and shooter on the same page to provide the footage we require for making our videos as good as we possibly can. It certainly helps hunters coordinate for more coyotes, but for us, its the filming success that really makes them indispensable.
