Hey i have one of those wal-mart q-beams (2million c.p.) We "deer shine" alot! from what i"ve read it is going to be too powerful for coyotes even with the red lense. what if I use 2 of these lenses? My buddy has the same light. Do you think it would work or do I just give it a shot and hope?

The main thing you would have to watch with two lenses would be heat build up... You may wind up melting the reflector or bulb..

I have the same light and have no problem using it at night. True it is a little powerful. Just remember, keep the light shining above them so you can only see there eyes until its time for the shot, then lower the light enough for the shooter to make the shot.

Used one for a while. A few problems that I noticed. It was heavy , especially for the ammount of lighting we did in a night. Second like turtle said, they got very hot. We had to use Dykem instead of a plastic filter. Even then, the Dykem would either bake off or fade, or flake due to the heat. But we were running our lights for hours nonstop.

I run mine for hours at a time with the red lens that comes with it. Have had it for two years now. No problems with heat even with a 100w bulb I installed. It does get heavy with the battery in it.

How do you guys run them for hours on end? Every spot light I have ever owned will only last about 20 minutes befroe the battery goes dead.

Most of us run our lights off of the truck's battery. Even with that, you'll need to beefen up your light with heavy-duty switches, wiring, plugs, etc. The stock wiring and switches, etc. will burn up after prolonged use. I don't care if I'm using a Q-Beam or a Lightforce, they all get heavy-duty switches, plugs, etc. I don't think there is a light made that plugs into a cigarette lighter that can withstand the hour after hour of constant use that we require.

Hope this helps!

Take care and God Bless,

Thanks for the info. So are you guys hunting out of the back of your truck?

Can someone guide me to a parts list of what I would need to beef up a light?

As Rusty said. There is no light out there made specific for what we do. This causes us to modify our lights to meet our individual preferences.
As far as a parts list....well here you go.
Get an H3 type automotive bulb in whatever wattage you prefer.
Next change the cigarette lighter plug in fuse to around 15amp. Most vehicles will handle this without problems of blowing fuses.
The wiring in the q-beam is sufficient to handle the amperage draw for the light.
Change the bulb and have fun!
The switch in the Q-beam is rated for 230V, so it will handle the current draw just fine.
Have been using mine just fine since the mods. That should help ya out of the dark!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I think Autozone sells a packaged pair of spotlights. And cheap. One is battery operated, and weighs about 4 lbs, the other weighs only 1 lb, and runs off the cigarette lighter. Spray the clear lens with some red paint (not too much, start thin, and add a coat or two if required).

The cheap plastic body of the light needs to be painted flat black also. They are yellow from the factory and shine back into you. Too bright, you cannot see because of that, so remember to do that before you head afield!

They cost about $15 for the pair

Walmart some times has a special with those 2mil q-beams, you get a light, 2 batterys, 3 filters, extra bulb, adaptors and such for $40. I found one last year around this time, still using it.

I use a qbeam that plugs in. I did however put a dimmer switch on it. It is great I can go from no light to 2mill C.P. and everywhere in between. I also used a 3lb. coffee can on it to cut down on the halo on the truck.
