Walther P22 review....

So my dad went out and bought one of these little beasties for a silencer host and we got to shoot a brick of shells through it this weekend. Don't have the silencer yet but here are my inital thoughts on the Walther P22;

Imported by Smith & Wesson...ok

Fits pretty well in the hand and points rally well. I have pretty big mitts and it was comfortable to shoot...all day. We really put it through its paces and it was really fun to plnk at grasshoppers, rocks, paper etc.

I really liked the mag release, (it is the rear part of the triggerguard) once you get used to it is really fast for mag changes.

I had 5 FTF's out of a full brick of shells and those were because my dad "Topped Off" the mag with my Wolf Target ammo....apparently the Walther doesn't like it at all. As for cheapo Winchester Wildcat ammo and Remington Value pack HV it ate them all day and had no problems at all.

Sights...Very visible...as long as they stayed on the gun.
The rear is a bit clunky and the front one has the bad habit of jumping off the gun at inoprotune times. We eventualy lost it and shot the rest of the day without it. Good thing it comes with 2 more...they should have just used one and staked it in there.

Over all I'll give it a flat 6. The suicidal front sight was a pain and it was nowhere near as accurate as my old Ruger MKII but it hasn't blown up yet so thats where I stand. For the money, I'd go Ruger or Browning but that's the old school in me showing his colors.

To avoid any potential buyer confusion, the reason that there are two more front sights for the pistol is the fact that they are both different heights from the one you lost. The rear sight is not elevation adjustable

Because the pistol is small, I have a friend who has a 10 year old grandson who shoots one regularly, and he has never lost the front sight originally installed on the pistol. I would estimate he has gone through well over 2K+ ammo with his pistol just the few times when I have seen him shooting it. He also shoots it a lot when I'm not there. In addition, the short sight radius makes it tougher to shoot accurately without practice, but it doesn't necessarily make the pistol "less accurate" than Brand X. For the small pistol size you give up some advantages that a larger pistol provides, and vice versa.

I bought one a while back to get the rest of the family comfortable shooting pistols. Never lost the sight, but didn't know there were more. I will have to check the box again because mine shoots pretty low.

One thing to check is the slide. There is a section of the ramp in the slide that can get pretty chewed up if the parts aren't smoothed out. I did a search and found some tips on how to make it more reliable and ended up taking an emory board to a few pieces like the trigger bar ears and feed ramp. If you can't find it doing a search let me know and I can dig up the info I have saved somewhere. This should make it last longer without issues.

Greetings,
I took my new Walther P22 to the range today and had a first rate experience ist time out, todays tests were ammo compatability, so I tried 8 different brands and the piece digested everything I fed it, had 2 ff in 100 rds, and had ff after 100 rds which is certainly reasonable, after cleaning back to 100%,
initial groups looked promising, but wasn't set up for that today,
I love this gun, and not sure why some people want to limit it to a plinker, has a good safety system, ergonomics are great, after replacing the alternate handle it fits swell, sighting is very good, and frankly this piece is stunning looking, for the price its a fine gun, I think a lot of poor reviews I have seen have more to do with users not cleaning and tweaking this piece,
good shooting

i have one my son has one and my hunting buddy has one, they all shoot great never had a problem with the front sight.i put a higher one on mine because it shot high.

Bought mine when they were only $255! Cleaning it is a must. No FTF so much as fail to load. Otherwise accuracy and over all performance are great.
