want a 22-250 CZ or Tikka

I am thinking of buying my son a 22-250 rifle. He has a 223Rem LVSF but I want to get him a 22-250. I see Tikka you can order on Whittaker website but where do you guys see the CZ rifles for sale? What is the idea twist for a 22-250? I think we'd be shooting the 40/50 pills so probably a 10 twist will work? 9 twist can work as well and the Tikkas from Whitakers are in 8 twist. Since the Tikkas are going to be $630 what is the going rate for a CZ?
 
An 8 twist, you better be shooting 60 gr bullets or heavier. I have a 9 twist that doesn't like anything lighter than a 55 gr bullet. A 14 twist as mentioned above is ideal for the 35, 40 50 gr bullets.

Thanks for the link. I could swear I did look for a Howa in 22-250 and did not find anything. I know some people regard Howa rifles fairly highly but I have never owned one. So the decision comes to the Howa for nearly $500 and then the Tikka at $630.

Obviously the Tikka needs to be customized a bit. I.e. scope is definitely a throw-on scope. Regardless I have decisions to make...which is not a bad thing!
 
Ok. I see the Howa it is CLOSE to $400 than $500. So this makes it a pretty good deal of something to play around with. I actually prefer the M700 BDL rifles but they are getting expensive to get one to play around with especially when you have three 223Rem in the house ...

Are there aftermarket parts for Howa actions? Do barrel makers make barrels for Howa? Reason for asking is I know a custom gunsmith who liked Howa rifles but that was a while ago and from one gunsmith.
 
The easiest rifle to customized hasn't been mentioned.......Savage. Out of the box accurate, tons of aftermarket parts that can be installed without a gunsmith. There are Tikka aftermarket parts out there but not many and pretty pricey. Then Howa, great little rifles but not a whole lot of custom stuff for them either. Barrels for the Tikka and Howa will need to be installed by a gunsmith. But......the Tikka has a butter smooth bolt, great trigger and will shoot as good as most customs, why fix it if it ain't broke???
 
The 1 in 12" twist is the ideal twist rate for the 22-250, unless you plan to shoot the heavy stuff.....which it sounds like you don't. Just my opinion.
 
Just a suggestion.... wife and I were at a pretty good gun show yesterday and I saw several Rem Mod 7's for $550.00 and up in
22-250. Several were the Predator model.

I was going to build a 6.5 Grendel on a mod 7 for here but she decided she wants a single shot so for now I am off the mod 7.
 
My Tikka 243 shoots tight groups and just like the way it works but my next gun will be a CZ. My brothers go to gun in 222.
 
Yeah I thought about the CZ. I am not all that crazy about the mag hanging down on the CZ especially at the area where I normally carry a rifle. But I got three rimfire CZ and they do shoot so I feel the CF rifles will shoot.

I looked for a CZ RH in 22-250 and could not really find anything yesterday. Seem all of the places I know where rifles are sold (buds/Whittakers/Gunbroker) don't have the CZ in the caliber I want. But I got time to think this through.

I may have to sell a few compact rifles that my son has outgrew and use that to fund his next rifle. No point keeping youth rifles since those days are long gone...
 
If you want a .22-250 in a CZ I think they only offer it in the CZ550. I have one in the Varmint Kevlar and it's outstanding, but it weights close to 15#'s with scope. Here it is with a group it shoots consistently. The only flaw is we other than its heft is the bolt throw, it comes up pretty high and limits either your ring height or scope diameter.



 
Both my tikkas and a cz 527 were all moa the first day I took them out with moderately priced factory loads. Hard to go wrong with either brand.

Take note that the weatherby vanguard is the same gun as a howa. The barrel is 2" longer on the weatherby and it is offered in more configurations.
