I'm trying to identify the year of manufacture of a Remington 700. Does anyone know of a link to a web site that I can look this up on?

Thanks,

Bill

On remington firearms there is an identification code stamped on the barrel just in front of the receiver on the left side. In the Blue Book of Gun Values it tells what month and year they were made. It is in the serialization section at the back of the book.

There are two (sometimes three) letters stamped in the barrel. They are on the left side, just above the stock level, about 1/2" in front of the recoil lug.

Give me those and I will give you the date of manufacture.

.

You can also just go into the Remington Website and there's a place you can look up date of manufacture for the 700's.

CatShooter, there is a stamping of BQ 23 on the left side of the the barrel.
Blackhawk43 thanks for the info on the Blue Book.
IDBob, Im sure the info is there but I haven't located it yet.

Thanks to all.

January 1996 (or 1978 - the year codes recycle).

.

Thanks for the dates. 1996 probably is the correct date but I'll continue to see if I can get a more precise date, if posible.
Thanks again.

The serial number will narrow it down a bit - but not all actions were made into guns when the action was made and numbered. #695847 might have been made in 1980, but not made into a rifle and "put on the books" until March of 1981.

With the serial number, you can narrow down the cycle of the year code, but the month/year code will tell exactly when it was turned into a firearm.

.

I now have found a place on the Remington site that may help in deterimining the data of manufacture. I hope that is the case.
