Wanting Colorado Elk Outfitter

Guys just asking if anyone knows of a elk full guiding service that you have used in Colorado and have good luck with and would reccommend to another. Granted i am not asking for someone to give up thier honey hole. Hoping other avid hunters could reccommend a guide that another person could trust and come away with a good experience and of course connect with and elk. I have plenty of points in Colorado for this year and could either go muzzleloader or rifle. Thanks ahead time for any help. Also have a preference point for Wyoming as well. If you do not want to post you can pm or email which is in my profile. Hey even if you want to get in touch with me i would even arrange that and leave my number. Believe me i can talk all day about elk hunting. I have went several times self guided hunts to colorado but wanted to try a full guided hunts. i would do DIY again with a drop camp and horses but ;you do not know how many other persons have been in that spot before you.

Here are 2 options for you. Both have good country and even though I have not hunted with either I know both are ran very honest outstanding people. They are both near Meeker and I have seen each take some really good bulls. Realize that a lot of the elk they take are going to be small 4 and 5 points, but hte potential is there to break the 300 mark.

Either one is really nice the second guy also run the local game processing set up.

Of the 2 I would pick HandH first, but both are known for good hunts and high succes rates...

Took a nice 6x5 with Harley Peters of Peter's Hunting Service in 1994. His operation was about 25 miles south of Rangely. Unit 20, if my memory serves me right. I think his son Loni runs it now because Harley developed some health problems. Me and my dad had a great time. You just need to be prepared for some long range shooting, 200 - 400 yards. I shot my bull at 160 yards but the other 3 guys in camp who were successful took their bulls at about 400 yards. We had 7 guys in camp that week and 4 of us got bulls. They have a 4 antler point minimum in that unit.

Strong I doubt you will get drawn with 5 points in any trophy area as it is to few, and I believe if you put in for a muzzleloading tag you'll lose the 5 you have when you draw for the tag. IMO your better off going over the counter rifle or bow in a area next to a trophy unit.
I don't usually give outfitters business but I do know of two that have good success rates with a chance at 300 plus class bulls. PM for the info if you want.

Hate to say it, but 5 pref points will not do anything for a trophy unit. Trophy units in the state are taking anywhere from 8-18 points for residents. All units have potential for trophy animals, but realize that the entire state is on draw for muzzle loader tags. Also realize that almost all of the state is also available for unlimited over the counter elk tags in regular riflr seasons. So that means that hte good trophy units are just as hard to draw as anyother trophy unit tag.

The state also went recently to unit specific muzzle loader tags. The amount of points required wioll alrgely depend on teh number of people wanting to hunt that unit vs. the number of tags available. So using 5 points to draw will not garuntee any sort of trophy, but judt implies more people wis to hunt there than say a lower populated desert tag...

I would still look at both I would gues that in teh near future both will see thier muzzle laoding tags take atleast 3-5 years to draw.
