Washington and Oregon Coyote Hunters

Do you need a liscence to hunt in Washington and Oregon for the coyotes? We are taking a trip for the Salmon run October 6-10th in the Tri City area (Pasco to be more specific). Every time we have come home from fishing we see some great hill country through both states we would like to call. But for the 5-6 stands we might call it is not worth purchasing a lisence. Thanks fellas.

In Oregon all you need is a hunting license. Don't shoot a bobcat, that's a separate license (fur hunters license) and tag(s) (which come free with the license). No badgers, racoons, cougars (separate tag) etc.

Non-resident hunting license is currently $140.50.

They don't have a 3-day option or anything like that I can find.

Yeah that is not worth the $$$$$ for a few stands a year. Thanks Evil Lurker! Dang it all. Evil are you anywhere close to the Idaho or Washington borders?

No, I'm 50 miles from the coast and 100 miles south of Washington. Albany, on I-5 south of Salem.

You would not enjoy hunting coyotes here, trust me.

Evil Lurker, how's the bobcat hunting in your area? I had a friend that hunted them somewhere along the Oregon coast with dogs. That was several years ago and I think I heard that Oregon banned hound hunting. Anyway, he did pretty good.

The hunting is great, it's the picking them out of the brush and actually killing one that's tough.

There are enough around to make it worthwhile, and seeing that you need a furbearer's license (that most people don't bother to get), they don't get much pressure.
Bobcat harvest season is December 1 through February 28.
There's a "pursuit" season for bobcat and fox, September 1 through February 28, but you can't kill them.
If somebody hit it hard, they could kill a bunch. There's no limit on the number allowed in Western Oregon. Eastern Oregon is 5 per year.

If you just want to hunt (no trapping): Resident Hunting License for Furbearers $22.00
That comes with 15 bobcat tags, and you can get more for free, if you need them (I wish!)

LOL...I will be the judge of where I hunt and the location you gave me sounds about right. Thanks for the info.

I think in Oregon you don't need a license to hunt coyotes if you're on private land and have written permission from the landowner. That's what I've been told anyway.

That's true, and you can hunt them at night with a light, too. I forgot about that possibility.

Fair enough. Think blackberry patches over your head and thick brush, it's pretty grim.

I've made quite a few stands (and called coyotes in) up on that ridge a few times. There's cats in there, too, if you can spot them.
