BREAKING: AAG Harmeet Dhillon announced she is taking San Jose to court for charging $1600 for a concealed carry permit! WOW!!
On September 16, 2026, the U.S. Department of Justice filed a lawsuit against the City of San Jose and the San Jose Police Department over the city’s concealed-carry license fee of about $1,591–$1,600. San Francisco charges $144. San Jose wanted nearly $1,600 just to apply, before training, fingerprints, and a psych exam. Dhillon called it what it is. A price tag on a constitutional right. Assistant Attorney General Harmeet K. Dhillon, who leads the Civil Rights Division, announced the action and is quoted in the official DOJ release.
I'm guessing San Jose only wants Rich People to carry concealed. Wild guess here, I'm thinking San Jose is a democrat city.
