Thanks to all for the kind words. I'll try to address a few of the questions in one post. This is son number two. Number one is two and a half and drives his (non-hunting) mother crazy by announcing to anyone who will listen that he wants a gun. One poor soul had the misfortune of asking him what he would do with a gun...to which he replied "I want shot a coyoteee."

Number two is destined to be a night hunter judging by his choice of waking hours, and his mastery of the howler and the squeaker.

tragically, I too have wondered as to the effectiveness of a loop of a crying infant. Somebody out there has done this already...feel free to speak up and let us all know if it worked. Kind of scary if it did, now that I think about it.

Does anyone think that a single shot .22 is a bad choice for a third birthday gift? any reccomendations as to brand/models?

Again, thanks all for the kind words.

Well, mine hasn't gotten to three yet, but for her first birthday I got her a NRA life membership. My wife wasn't too thrilled with that one. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
