weasel trapping methods

Last year was my first time and I made some boxes about 14" long and 6" x 6" wide and high. I pounded a nail through the back and stuck a rabbit leg (hair off)on it. Then for the horizontal entrance looking into it long ways I made a 2" hole. I placed a #1 long spring (hair triggered) right in the box in front of the hole pan facing first. I used a heavy duty staple to secure the chain swivel to the wood on the inside of the box. The top off the box is removable to the side with just one screw in one end and wired down on the other end so trap can be baited and set. The wood I used was not weathered at all pine. So it was bright and new and didn't seem to matter. The ermine/weasel was usually encapsulated by the #1 LS on the chest or body. I have heard of using big rat traps. I think I may switch to them this winter. My problem is that my ATV is my rubber boats and my back, so toting these boxes around was difficult in the snow. This info is a combination from others on this forum that helped me build mine. I'm sure others will have some better info for you...Good luck
