Weatherby Mark V Ultra Lightweight

I was up at the new Cabela's store before Christmas and put the following rifle on layaway.

Weatherby Mark V Ultra Lightweight
.30-06
gray synthetic stock
lightweight fluted stainless barrel
Wby/Talley mounts and rings (no scope)

I found this online article about the same rifle in .338-06
http://www.gunsandammomag.com/long_guns/mark_v_lightweight/

Anyone here own one of these?

I have one in 25-06. They call it the Super Big Game Master, but it is the same gun as the ultra-lite. I like mine very much. Light Weight and accurate.

There isn't anything quite like it on the Wby website. I'll do some more research on the Super Big Game Master.

I googled it real quick and found this from an article in GUNS magazine.

The SBGM is similar in handling and appearance to the earlier Ultra Lightweight model. The main difference in appearance is that the Ultra Lightweight has a bright stainless barrel with black flutes, while the fluted barrel of the SBGM is black-finished stainless steel.

Thanks

I have one in 270 Winchester. I like mine. I did have a little trigger work done on it. Other wise the fit and finish of this rifle is great.

I got this one at what would have been a fair price for a nice Vanguard. No complaints there.

Trying to decide on a scope for it. Probably mount a B&L Elite 4000 2.5-10x I already have.

Yep, I've got one in .308, mine's taken some abuse and keeps on ticking. I've killed about everything that walks with it here in KY. I'm going to break it down and paint over the beauty marks this year. That light weight kicks pretty good though, makes the .308 seem like a hot 30-06. Haven't shot the 06 so I don't know what it feels like. I've had a 3x9 Leopold on mine but I'm thinking about going to a 2.5 or 4x guide scope, most of our shots are inside 100 yards.

My favorite rifle is a Rem 700 Mountain Rifle in .338, shoot that baby enough to get comfortable with it and you are no longer a stranger to recoil .

If this Weatherby had been in .308, that would have been perfect. I don't own or load for the .30-06 right now. I try to stick to common calibers, and I've already got rifles and ammo in .308.
