guys i have a guy here locally that is wanting to sell me a weatherby 12ga o/u like brand new for 350.00.... i dont know the model on it yet bc i havent seen it.. is that a good price on an over under weatherby or is that about what they are new for some models... ive never messed with weatherby guns before so im asking some of you guys for some input... thanks shawn.

Are you sure it is a Weatherby and not the inexpensive Remington/Russian Baikal O/U? Older Weatherby O/U shotguns were made by SKB and were excellent shotguns and priced well over $1,000. The newest Weatherby shotguns are from Turkey and I'm hearing are not up to the Jap SKB quality. But like everything else these days they're still carrying a hefty price tag. I'd be leery of a true Weatherby O/U in good condition for $350.00. If it is a Weatherby for that little money it'd have to be beat to heck at that price. That sounds more like the price of the Remington/Baikal O/U and if someone doesn't really know their guns maybe they just got confused when they threw the name out there?

no it is the weatherby regency o/u... it is made in italy...its stamped right on the gun.. and it has alot of engraving on the gun.. the guy just stopped by.. said he was hardup for money and needed 350 for it. my dad bought it about 30 minutes ago...
i know nothing about weatherby, neither of us do.. i just wanted to make sure it wasnt a cheap knockoff of a more expensive weatherby.. i know you can get the cheapies at walmart for about 400bucks...

if its a true weatherby and i dought it is for only 350 you should buy it. I never personally cared for the famous weatherby grip but they are a well built shotgun. I dont know much about the new ones. Good luck and keep us posted, and who knows maybe you found a real deal!! Lee

well, heres the story... the guy was hard on his luck just being laid off for the past month..... said he just wanted to sell the gun.. my father knows the guy well and wouldnt suspect him of selling a stolen gun. now whether it is remains to be seen... i did stop by this afternoon after work and took a look at it... it is a nice looking gun... the engraving work all over the reciever is awesome to say the least.. there is not a strip on it that doesnt have some engraving on it... and it does have the made in italy weatherby regency on it.. the wood is in good shape. id rate it at 95-98% if i was at a gun shop looking at it...
if i stop back by my dads tomorrow i will take a pic of it and post it... again.. im not a weatherby guy infact that is the first one ive ever held in my hands..so for me to try and tell you its a real deal ... im not going to do...

I "think" the Regency is an older model than I was thinking of in my post above. If it has fixed chokes and isn't threaded for choke tubes, and has a flared pistol grip instead of a little rounded knob like the Brownings, then I'm pretty sure it is an older gun. In the condition you described it is worth $350.00 easily.

This model has a reputation for mis-firing due to weak mainsprings. If it is still functional, It would be well worth the $350 and more. Just keep in mind that if you have problems, parts and repairs could be problematic.

I found this reference on the net.
WEATHERBY REGENCY - These guns were made by Angelo Zoli of Italy & sold to Weatherby. Not to be confused by his brother Antonio Zoli. Angelo has been out of business for MANY years & Antonio's guns, (sold under the Zoli name) were NOT the same. So NO spare parts are available, as the factory had very few spare parts left even when the gun was discontinued.

my old man just puts them in the safe never to be seen again.. he doesnt shoot them... every so often he gets them out and wipes them down... sad but true... i didnt have time yesterday to swing in and snap a picture.. im off this week for deer season and will get a pic on here... it is a nice looking gun imho... and yes gc it is the fixed tube... no chokes.
not sure on the grip though.. i didnt pay much attention to it..
