Weaver Classic Extreme

I see these are still around at a good price. I remember a year or so ago there was a discussion on them. I'm wondering how they are perceived now that some more time has gone by. Specifically wondering about their performance in low light. I know the illuminated reticle has to help, but what about the glass? Those who own, which of your other scopes would you compare it to as far as light gathering ability?

These are the ones from Natchez which the reviews seem to always point to. From the reviews it seems most owners are saying better than this or that scope but one said he was going to check it against his Conquest but he never posted a follow up. I'm curious how it stacks up against the Conquest as I'm very satisfied with mine. Now if I could have comparable glass and an illuminated reticle for $289 I'd have to give one a try.

Several of the gents I shoot with at range we're members purchased one...one gent got 2. Think most of them bought the 8-32x50 model.

Anyway, only gripe I heard about them was the eye relief was too long.....having to mount scope as far forward as possible. Each thought the optics in them was pretty good and they typically put some pretty nice scopes on their rifles.

As to how the Extreme scope handles low light conditions, don't recall any comments about that from my buddies. But, based on my viewing thru a couple of them, don't think they'd perform any worse than other scopes in the price range.

I have a classic extreme 4-16x50 with the illuminated german no.4 reticle. I love it. excellent in low light and at night. lighted dot is great for night hunting. I can usually get a pretty clear view out to 200 yards on 8x at night with my coyote tlr. I have an older bushnell banner widw angle 3-9, a tasco 3-9x50 (which does well in low light also), and a leupold vari-x 2 3-9. The weaver does much better in low light/night hunting. I do have some trouble on sunny days at longer ranges on woodchucks, but I think a sunshade would help that tremendously.
