I was in a local shop a couple of days ago scope shopping. They have a "catch all" table with all kinds of stuff piled up. Slow sellers or open box's of ammo, just odds and ends. I notices a big yellow box that said Weaver Scope. Curiosity got me so I opened the box and there was a really cool old Weaver V8 2.5-8. The little scope is in minty condition and even has the wrench to tighten the rings to the bases. It seems to function just fine but it is a little cloudy. Other than just being cool and a tiny bit of Weaver history, I have no use for it. But for $15.00 I had to have it. Maybe I can flip it at a gun show or one of our gun club swap meets. Doesn't matter one way or another as it is really cool. At least I think so. LOL
 
They were a decent scope in there day. I still use a B&L 2.5-8 with external adjustments on my 22-250. I think I have the same Weaver stashed away that someone swiped the adjustment caps at a gun show in Fargo about 45 years ago.
 
I picked up one at Houston gun show 25-30 years ago. It is a decent scope, this one has a pretty busy reticle, but really doesn't distract as much as I thought it would on my Manlicher stocked 10/22.

My dad (RIP) put that exact scope on the 8mm Mauser he brought back from WWII, 2nd Rangers.
He upgraded the stock and safety in the 1960s.
With it, he dropped a moose with single shot, moose was wading near shore, he was 100 yards offshore in a small boat.
Its a great FFP scope for that time period and it still does well at 100 yards.
I've had the trigger worked on since then, but the original pull was terrible.
This piece will stay in the family..

Bishop stock, very nice bolt alteration and original barrel; very nice conversion and the Weaver scope looks right at home on it!
Lots of WWII rifles were converted in the 50's and 60's. Built serveral using Fajen and Bishop drop in blanks for Mausers and 03's. Saw a couple of fellows turned the original Mauser barrels down to remove the steps and neither shot well after that.
I picked up a Peruvian 98 which was originally chambered in 30-06, built a nice sporter for my son.
What attracted me to the V8 was I had not seen a scope with the external adjustment as used on target scopes, such as Unertl, etc.
 
Nice snag on the Weaver. If it is cloudy/foggy , the seals are probably gone. Contact these guys to see if they have the parts available. It will be as good as new when they get done with it.

Already did. They no longer work on the old Weavers. To bad as they are only on the other side of town. I was hoping they might make an exception but its a "nope".
 
I had an old scope that was a little cloudy, pretty sure it was the V8, but not positive. I asked a friend if he knew someone who could fix it; he did not, but suggested I remove the ocular eye piece and see if the clouding was on that lense; it was. He suggested wiping down w/soft cloth damp w/acetone. I did and it cleared up. I was worried about losing any nitrogen that might be left in the scope, but that has been at least 10-15 years and scope still clear. I did put a very light coat of grease (lubriplate IIRC) on threads to help keep moisture out and have never had the scope out in the rain.
