I have my dad's old Weems Wild Call, and I use it every year. When I went to get it out of my hunting gear this year...its dead. No sound whatsoever. Anyone know anything about these old calls, and if there is something simple I am overlooking.

I dont mind buying a Dan Thompson Weems, but it wouldnt be dad's...

It's possible that the reed might have dirt/dust in it. That would lock it up.

IMHO, you can do 2 things:
#1...turn the call "backwards", and blow HARD into the call for as long as you can. That might remove any particles that have gotten into the reed.
Or #2 (if #1 doesn't work)...do the same thing, only with a can of compressed air (like is used on computer keyboards).

I removed the reed, and it was full of junk...but after cleaning it out and reinstalling, still no sound. I ordered some replacement reeds, we will see if that fixes it.

It will fix the problem. My first ever call was a Weems. I used the call, just the one, for 11 years straight when I first started calling. I bought a pack of replacement reeds and when one blew out I simply replaced it. That call cost me $3 at the San Francisco Gun Exchange in SF, California. I bought it before I knew anything about calling. When I moved south I got into the old California Varmint Callers Association and began competing with other club members. That call was responsible for the demise of hundreds of coyotes, bobcats and foxes and a few deer.

Yes,I have a couple of Foxpro callers and enjoy them but in all honesty a mouth blown call is all anyone really needs. I still enjoy using one from time to time.

I appreciate the help...I will admit it kind of made my heart sink when I found it not working. This call is the very call that introduced me to calling coyotes...and I plan to use it to do the same with my son.

Thank you all. If the reed doesnt take care of it, I will definitely holler.
