well i went out for a little mouse hunt today, after about an hour or so of waitng and walking around i called it quits. On my way in I looked up in a tree behind our house and at about 15yards a starling was jus sitting there. I laid down on my back and propped the gun up on my knee, and let the lil pellet fly, he jumped and squacked, then flew to another tree and fell, when i picked him up, i noticed i had shot a little low and that was why he had not dropped.

This was jus my little highlight of the day and i thought i would share it

i had a pretty good highlight last tuesday. i had just finished sighting in my marlin 917 with a new scope. about an hour later i looked in my backyard and there were 2 rabbits feeding along the brushline. grabbed the gun and rested againsg the sliding door. tried lying down but couldn't due the small bumps in the yard. stood up and fired off the first shot. rabbit dropped. the other one ran a few feet and stopped. fired a second and it dropped. haven't had a double for several months.

way to go with those rabbits

yote hunter i have a gamo shadow1000, but i am gettin ready to buy a pcp or a stronger break barrel

Airguns are way fun. When I was kid we lived backed up to a field. Every fall the garage was full of mice. On average I could 3-4 mice a day and the traps would only catch 3-4. I would sit in the dark over bait with a head lamp. It was my first seudo night hunting. Heck I even think one day I skipped school to stay home and wound up spending most of the day shooting at mice.

Sounds like a blast. I used to hunt rabbits with my pellet gun all the time as a kid. I now have to get another pellet gun for my girlfriends kids and teach them to shoot. The oldest boy wants to go with me in the worst way so it is going to be a lot of fun soon.

last month i caught a rat in my live trap in the wood shed. brought it up in the middle of the yard between the house and shed so i could open the trap and shoot it with the 17hmr. well i opened the trap and before i could focus on it, the rat was already in the shrubs along the house until it finally found the vent missing a screen. next time i'll bring out the 410. tried the same things with a raccoon except it was in a field with 3 10-22s pointed at it. the raccoon ran 20 yards and dropped.

Hey, I'm 59 years old and I still love hunting varmints with my pellet gun. If it wasn't for my pellet gun, my orchard and garden would be harder to keep the "pests" out of. IMO, everyone should have pellet gun. I keep mine next to the door ready to go, 24/7.

getfoxy,
Keep after 'em, it hones the skills for bigger critters.

This weekend a buddy and I took off to the desert to sight in AR. I took the 10/22 just for the heck of it.

We are driving out in the middle of no where and I notice a covey of Gambles about 30 yards out. I jump out of the truck rest the 10/22 on the bed and iron sights put a bead on the biggest one of the bunch. Bang and that was that, in and out very little damage to the bird. These were very wild birds and obviously not shot at before, as they stayed put. Missed the second one and they decided it was time to fly...

Getfoxy,

I got a starling and a pidgeon today.Makes for a good day.

I prefer a fixed barrel gun myself,I don't have a ton of expierence with break barrel springers.Although i have read the fixed barrels are more accurate in the long run.

Years ago a friend had a break barrel .177,it was new to me,i had no idea a one pump gun could do that. We used to mouse hunt in their garage during cold weather. We'd sit on an old pool table w/a little bait out and pop them. The floor was concrete and if you shot low and hit him on the bounce it would launch them 6-8 inchs in the air.Yuup pellet rifles are alot of fun..Mike

I'm wondering why you bother to let them out of the trap before shooting them. Isn't that sort of like a "canned hunt"? Maybe I' misunderstanding you, but this doesn't seem like "fair chase". I could be wrong.

My brothe bought my dad one for christmas. It is a Gamo 890s with a BSA 3x12x40mm AO scope on it. IS it a good one. All my dad will do with it is shoot a few squirrels in season with it and crows. VM

i dont know anything about theis particular rifle, but everything gamo makes is pretty much strong, reliable, and accurate with the worst of pellets, i reccomend some crow magnum pellets

i know it sounds dumb but for people who have probs with pests

airguns are so much fun!

couldn't agree more. I live in town so the 22 just wont work but my pellet gun gets the job done. And when I really want a challenge I get out the blow gun.

I luv my chrome 25 cal air pistol...(pic)
Smacks upto rabbits size game with no problems...
he he......................

i cant hunt with airguns in PA but i really "bet" that my winchester rm277 1000x break barrel will knock the snot out of starlings. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
