western powders TAC for 243

I started using TAC for 223 a while back and really like it,so I was searching for a load on their website for 243 using TAC.There was nothing listed so an email sent and one day later a response.They gave me a starting load and max load for the bullet weight I asked about.I was a big fan of Varget because it is a great all temp powder,but it seems to be "dirty"for me.TAC has the same all temp range but burns much cleaner,so I am ready to get started in on loading a few to see how it does.If you are a western powders shooter and dont find a load that you are looking for shoot them an email and see what they say.If you havn't tried their powder and you like Varget it may be a good option!!!
 
I haven't tried the TAC, but planning on trying it in my 308 loads. I have been using the x-terminator in 223 40gr and 50gr loads and its been great.
 
I like the Ramshot brand of powders and it is really nice to see a company get an "At-A-Boy" from a customer. It would be hard to pry myself away from Varget and .243, but it is nice to hear a guy has excellent options.
 
I called them once about using their XTerminator vs. TAC powder in the .223 and they called me back and gave me some good info and made recommendations. I like their CS as well.
 
Using TAC for my 223 77 gr. BTHP loads, using info from an old phamplet of theres.....has the highest velocity, and shoots awesome in my RRA NM-A4....rsbhunter
 
I've had real good luck with Ramshot Hunter and 100 grain Hornadys in my 243. It meters alot nicer than Varget too.
 
I was curious so I checked the burn rate chart on their website and it has TAC at 98 and Varget at 105.I dont know anything about burn rates but isn't that very close to the same?Originally Posted By: ole_270I would think TAC would be too fast for the 243, Big Game and Hunter would be a better fit in my limited usage.
 
The 243 is closer to being overbore than either the 223 or 308 where TAC works well. Generally slower powders work better in the 243 especially with medium to heavy bullets.
You can't really predict burn rate by the # on a chart, there is more "gap" between some powders on the charts, less on others. You'll also find different order of ranking on some charts. Burn rate isn't consistent from one cartridge to another, or lot to lot of the same powder, some powders are worse in that respect than others.
You may find a good load at a velocity you can live with, but usually it will be easier with powders more suited to the chambering.
 
ole 270,Thanks for the great info!My request from Ramshot was only for 55gr bullets and it sounds like that is the only option for TAC.I think I will see how it does,more from curiosity than anything else.Its nice to have a powder that will work in most of my limited arsenal,but this probably won't be it.Its hard to beat Varget,and I dont notice the "dirty" part of it in my 243 being its a bolt gun.Thanks for the input!!
