I am picking up my tikka .223 tomorrow. I was wondering what you guys are using for ammo. I am not going to be reloading so it needs to be something readily available at most stores. What grain and bullet type do you guy recommend?

I zeroed my Savage with bullets (Ammo) that would always (hopefully) be readily available at any (hopefully) Wal Mart in the country!

Remington UMC 50gr HP's.

I got that gun as a spare/loaner, and that's how I wanted to feed it, any where, any time, at a moment's notice. I asked specifically and they looked them up for me and told me they were a standard inventory item. They always tried to have them, and every Wal-Mart in the country stocked them.

Now I'm getting another 223 bolt gun, so I might start loading the 223 again. I sure like V-max in my handloads.

Bigmike22 :Congraulations on your new rifle i know you will really enjoy it and maybe down the road you may start reloading . you might want to try the white box Walmart sells . they really shoot good in my ar its a 45 gr hp and it has been pretty accurate . its made be winchester and there is a 50 gr they sell that i really like also . in a 223 i like the lighter bullets a little more velocity and it really pops when it hits good luck and enjoy it.

Winchester white box shoots great thru mine. So does the Federal American Eagle. The Federal (50gr HP) is a teeny bit cheaper...and is equally accurate.

My two Savages are 1/9 twist and really like the Vmax 60 grn. pill. Probably a lot more than what a P-dog needs , but they perform very well in that twist. My understanding is the faster twist barrells do better with the heavier bullets. I haven't tried the lighter stuff , but the 60's do a great job in my rifles. Someday, I'll try some lighter stuff.

I was just at Walmart and the winchester white box 45gr hollow points, which I've been shooting for a long time, have been discontinued. Looks like I'll be looking for a new round. I shoot a CZ 527 with 1 in 12 twist. I'll probably try the UMC next.

Most any 50gr bullet works good in my Rem M700 VS. Not sure about the tighter twist of the T3.
My pet load is 28.0 grs of BLC with a 50 or 55 gr SP. They all shoot well.
