That was the best speech that Bush has given in a long time. I think that every one of his five points was exactly what we need to do. Now if we can get congress off their lazy arse and get this through , we will be a much better country! I beleive that at least 75% of our public will agree on this with him, and I hope that those crazy left and right coast lib's will take notice and get their head out of their snobby tails and see that this is the only way to go. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif By the way, knowing full well what the situation is by being here in texas, working in construction, I know that the guest worker program is a good idea, and the most practical. And thats the big issue, is what you want practical, I believe what he said is the most practical solution for us right now.

Nothing he proposed is new. It's already law. What we needed to hear was that he was finally going to mandate enforcement of the penalties for laws already on the books. We didn't. He danced all around that and gave us nothing!

Nationa Guard on the border? What a joke! They will not be allowed to provide any support repelling the influx of illegals. They cannot even serve as "observers" as the Minutemen were doing. This is a disservice to the citizens of America, and a raping of the U.S. taxpayer.

no, if congress lets him do what needs to be done, things will be better. That attitude is doing nothing to help the problem. Is there more that can be done, maybe, is there more that the left 3rd of america will let be done?, not even close. And what did he say that is already law? All that technology? Adding 6000 more troops? Letting the Guard train them? He said that we have to enforce the laws, do away with the catch and release, what else do you want. You have to remember that a perfect world wont exist with that many voters in New england and california who dont know a damn thing at all. Be happy that you at least get something. We could have kerry!
 
Page 12 of the 2004 IMMIGRATION ENFORCEMENT RESOURCES AUTHORIZED IN THE INTELLIGENCE REFORM AND TERRORISM PREVENTION ACT states:

"The U.S. Border Patrol also utilizes advanced technology to augment its agents' ability to patrol the borders. These technologies include light towers, mobile night vision scopes, remote video surveillance systems, directional listening devices, unmanned aerial vehicles, and database systems."

So he proposed no "new" technology.

There are 212 BP agents currently patroling the 2,000 mile international border with Mexico. After the arrival of the 6,000 NG troops, there will still be only 212 agents patroling the 2,000 mile border with Mexico. They will receive NO help from the Guard for that overwhelming task.

Nothing is being done to stop the invasion.
 
SInce you missed this part of his speech i will tell you what you missed. Along with the 6000 NG troops, he is going to add 6000 more troops to the border patrol, basically doubling the size of the troops since he has been in office, from 9000 to 18000. There are already 12000. That means that there will be more people there, So I dont know how there will only be 212 as you say.

Personally, I thought the whole speech was a joke. And I really don't like the fact that he soap boxed his propoganda off of that Marine Gunnery Sergeant's actions in Iraq. What that Marine did was heroic, what Bush did by mentioning him in his speech was create diversion and a smoke screen. I think it was a discrace to the Marine's actions.

I am pretty much upset at the whole situation and outcome of the address. The whole temporary work thing for the mexicans is going to go over quite well.....ya right... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif
 
Guys, i didn't get to hear the President tonight, just got off work. sounds like a good idea, to have everyone speak English. we are just now getting Spanish speaking folks in the area, hate to think about someone in an accident/house fire, or other emergency coming into the house screaming in another language. it's a bad situation, what would you do? the kids in school here know more English than their parents.

Wrong. He's adding 6,000 "agents" to the BP. And that is over a period of 2.5 years!

All the rest are border guards, inspectors, investigators, and administrators.


Even the BP Union Chief says Bush's NG plan is hollow and does nothing to secure the border.

What are the border guards and inspectors and investigators doing? I think they help plenty. Sorry thats not physical work to you. I think many a cop would disagree.
 
NASA, I agree 100% with you. Those National Guard troops can't do anything. They can't patrol and or stop or arrest or nothing. All the same political *&^$YU& that we have heard for WAY TO LONG. Bush is a joke and so was his "Speach", I want a secure border. The Border Patrol will still have it's couple hundred same guys doing the work they have been attempting to do for years with no success at all. And the National Guard will only count the number of illegals crossing the border.
We need to enforce our laws. Plain and simple. And fine anybody that hires an illegal alien so much they won't do it again. And if you are not a citizen you don't get any percs that LEGAL immegrants recieve, if they recieve any at all. They follow the law and lose just like true American citizens of every race lose. You got to love two faced suck A## politicians, especially when election time nears. I trust the prostitute on the corner more than them as I know where she is coming from....Walt
 
Patrol. Get it? Patrol. There's a big difference between a cop who sits behind a desk all day and processes paperwork and the cop on the street. The 212 are the guys out in the sagebrush running down the wetbacks. They are the front line. They are the ones getting shot at. Yep, NASA has it dead on. It's the one issue that really has me scratching my head. We are waging a war on terror, right? What good is a border that any terrorist can cross? For all we know OBL can be living in Cleveland.
 
I am just enjoying showing the rest of the members on here your true colors. I bet you feel the same about blacks, asians,etc too huh?
 
Actually, We have been doing something for quite a few years, just not enough to stem the tide that has been flowing across the river for years now.
You can't make the drive from San Antonio down to Laredo without seeing the border patrol stopping freight trains, trucks, minivans and anything else that is capable of carrying more than two people. Its the same way in the El Paso and Brownsville areas based on my last few trips there.
A multi-million dollar video surveillance system has been put in place in areas, but it is not working due to some sort of political/contractual issue with the vendor. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif
Take a hunting trip down that way, and I promise you'll most likely be stopped and "checked".
Anything will help, so lets give it a chance before we condemn the hell out of it.
