WHAT A SPEECH!!!!!!!

I was going to add Condi Rice, as we hunt all the time, but I dont think anyone would believe me /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

We had a nice sprinkle of rain today, calling for more tonight. Hopefully, my lettuce and spinach will break through in the morning, it's still cold, about 50 now.

Cheney is a bit of a busy man these days NASA but make no mistake about it. He is a sportsman and he comes from a long line of sportsman and people who make a living from the land. I have met the man several times. I have served on numerous security details when he comes home to visit. Stick to putting the mouth on those who you think you know NASA. Like the president.

Wyo, I wasn't dissing Cheney. I was pointing out that it takes more than one person in order to be considered "surrounded".

With all due respect, I'll pass on going hunting with Cheney. Unless. of course, he is only allowed an unloaded shotgun.

That poor SOB will never live that one down. Rightly so. Most accidents are purely stupidity in motion.

Wrong, wrong, wrong.
He stated publicly and loudly that if Congress got a renewal to his desk he would sign it.

Quote:
wanted to let the assault rifle ban, signed by clinton, to expire.

To each his own claimbuster. And you are right, most accidents are pure stupidity in motion. But there are several other factors you are not considering. First and foremost, you were not there and have no clue what happened or who's stupidity it was (could have been the stupidity of the one who got shot for all you know) and second, have you never in your life done something completely stupid, firearm related or not, that you wish you could take back? If so, should you be labeled and punished the rest of your life? Of course, when thats all you got to use against Cheney I guess you take what you can get.

NASA............point taken and thanks for the clarification. As far as GWB is concerned, the man inherited a tough nut to crack and has been faced with alot of adversity. There are things he could have done much better. There are things he has been right on the money. Not sure any of the other candidates could have or would have done any better. I support the man because he is all we got right now and hating him or playing shoulda, coulda, woulda is not going to strengthen this country one single bit.

I'd rather have Cheney as pres than Bush. I think it'd be great if the dems impeach Bush bc then Cheney will assume the office & the dems will realize what they've done & we can whatch their heads explode /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Cheney more than likely would be a fantastic president. Personally I am getting tired of the GOP offering up RINO candidates trying to "get in touch" with the hand-wringing middle thinking the base would rather vote for them vs a Kerry or Gore.

I believe that you and I are consistent on most of the facts here, save one.

Agreed, obviously I was not there, I do not know exactly what happened. I have only the jaded views of our news media to base my opinions.

Agreed, I sometimes think I have the corner on doing stupid things. As I get older I seem to do more stupid things, more often.

Agreed, nobody should be labled or punished for a lifetime.

TOTAL DISAGREEMENT, when I am carrying a firearm it is my responsibility, my TOTAL RESPONSIBILITY and mine alone, to be sure of my target BEFORE I pull the trigger! On that one, I will not back down. Whether it be the Vice President of the United States or little old me, we all have that same responsibility. Should an accident happen, God forbid, for any reason, I feel I hold the ultimate responsibility for that accident (mistake, stupidity or whatever) because I had sole control of the trigger. I made the decision whether it was safe, or unsafe, to send a bullet or a load of shot on its path. Therefore, I must shoulder and accept the consequences of my actions.

Lastly, I don't believe anywhere in my post I said or implied that I have something against Cheney. If I did, I apologize as nothing could be farther from the truth. To have someone who is a successful businessman, from a western state a step away from the White House, who understands those of us in the west....hey look where I live.

I've stayed out of this one since I was not able to watch the speech, but I'll jump in now to make a couple of points.

The NG can't act as LEOs at the president's direction, it's against the posse comitatus laws. Politically that would be an insurmountable barrier (remember New Orleans?).

The governors could use the state guards or request "federalization" but for some reason won't. When Janet Napolitano supposedly called them out here in AZ it was just political grandstanding. She refused to sign the (Republican) bill providing ongoing funding.

The law requiring English is for those applying for citizenship, not for work visa holders. I'm not sure of the details, but English fluency is apparently not required for all members of a family. My great-grandfather spoke English but my great-grandmother never learned it, and they were both naturalized citizens.

Most of my Hispanic friends (I'm related by marriage to dozens) call illegals "wetbacks" (or worse).

Dick Cheney is a heck of a man IMHO. I have had lunch with him several times when he was my congressman from WY (along with a couple of dozen others), and have shot the s**t with him after those luncheons. He impressed me then and I've seen nothing to change my mind since.

As for hunting with him, to my everlasting regret, I declined an invitation to do just that, because I had to work. I'd hunt with him in a heart beat if given a second chance (not likely, LOL).

The first reports I heard about his hunting accident said the the "victim" was joining the hunting party unannounced, walked into the "fire zone" from behind a hillock and was partially behind a bush. I agree with Claimbuster, that still doesn't absolve the guy that pulled the trigger, but it does make it a little more understandable. He was probably lucky the Secret Service didn't shoot and kill him.

i didnt pay it much mind, as they said i was name calling /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif, yet did so themselves...It was asked before as well, and no response was given, so it must be an insider thing /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif. Oh well. its been an intersting post, and did what it was supposed to do, start a discusion. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Bush's speech appears to not have helped him in the polls.Fox News shows him down by three points since giving his speech.

oh no that wasnt directed at you!! sorry about that, just trying to give a quick answer to your question, with out really answering it...

I hear ya, i dont get offended very much, and I wont ever call you twinkle toes! But some folks cant have a discusion without taking it personal( I may be guilty of that sometimes though /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif). Hell, there is too many people on here for us to all agree. Oh well, it makes work fun sometimes when theres nothinig to do. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

LOL! Sometimes you guys crack me up! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
A troll is someone who signs into an online discussion forum, and makes inflammatory, contradictory, rude or offensive posts, with the specific purpose to intentionally annoy, antagonize, and incite the existing members. Also called "flamers". Their only reason is to cause dissention and disrupt the flow of discussion. Think "thread hacker".
