What accuracy is acceptable in a yote gun

I'm glad you mentioned conditions. They matter, a lot.

I pass up most of the 300+ yard shots I'm offered. But when conditions are right, I take them. I kill a very high percentage on those shots. Last year I went something like 8 for 10 on coyotes between 300 and 500. But, that doesn't say anything about all the shots in that range I did not take.

And definitely says nothing about the routine shots inside of 150 I managed to screw up. The older I get, the more of those I find a way to mess up on.

But sometimes, when conditions are favorable, for me, it's actually easier to bear down, even go prone a lot of the time, get a real steady sight picture and knock one down at 400 yards than it is to swing on one and get off a hurried shot at 100 yards.

It's at times like that, when rifle accuracy really does matter.

I don't preach to anyone else what they should use or what they should be striving for. It's none of my business. Me though, I won't keep a varmint rifle that is not a genuine .5 MOA or better shooter. Can't do half inch, it's gone. There are a few guys on these boards that have bought my 5/8 MOA rifles to prove it...

Thanks for all of the feedback it is much appreciated. I will most likely give the 25-06 a chance just because it would be nice to get some fur on the ground with it and just be cognizant of my ranges up to the 300 ish point. I can always swap out to one of my more accurate hunting rigs in the future as I am sure follow up shots with a single shot will get old after a while. I plan on running through my first ever set of stands this weekend and will let you guys know how it goes.

This for me. I feel that if i get my accuracy to this, then I can't blame the gun when I miss, only me. Unless they have been passed down, then i don't own them if they don't shoot at least moa.
