What Bipod height do you use?

Shopping for a new Harris swivel bipod for my 338. Looking for prone use only.
I've got a 9-13" right now, but it seems too tall from what I've used it so far. Built up a little bag for the rear and still had to use a second support while shooting this morning.
Anybody use the 6-9" for prone shooting compared to bench shooting only?

Harris 9-13" swivel/notch/ KMW podloc.

Shoot more off my belly than a bench and the 6-9" will hardly clear the grass before too long.

Also use a small & relatively light rear bag made by Triad Tactical...

I've got the BR, the 6-9, and 9-13.

I feel each has their uses. But 6-9 is the most versitile for what and where I hunt mostly targets and vermin, in prone shooting.

For hilly terrain particularly, if I know I'm starting at the bottom of the hill and working the bottoms of the draw or climbing up. I like the Tallest of Tallest of bi-pods. So I can aim up-hill easily.

If I know I'm calling a critter in to a call. I like the sitting bi-pod or stick.

If I'm hiking downhill on a hunt, I go with the shortest of my bi-pods. The BR-swiveling. Downhill aiming is easier with a short bi-pod, as long as vegitation is co-operative.

I really prefer the swiveling model, I have non-swiveling they are just a pain. I don't own a notched leg model, but would like to try them. Simply because they are quicker (they pop out with a push) the opposite of the friction where you have to push the button to collapse the leg.

9-13 hurts my back because I have to arch too much, 6-9 is perfect IMO.

+1 on the 6-9 with notch locks. lee.

Before you buy one. You should try out a Versa-Pod. I've used a Model #1 for quite afew yrs. Has adjustable locking legs, pitch & yaw. Et snaps on-off, in a few seconds. Also once you mount the [bipod mount] on your rifle. You can buy different lengths of "legs" for prone or sitting. That fit onto the same mount.

95% of my shooting is prone. The rest is on the fly /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I use the 9-13" Harris on my AR. I support the pistol grip on the wedge section of a rear bench bag similar to Ridge Runners wedge idea. The buttstock floats and I dont make much contact with the butt of the gun to the shoulder. Grass height here is an issue too, my upcoming bolt gun will be getting a custom rear bag support that I'll make once it arrives. Again, wedge design for subtle elevaton changes

9 to 13 is what I normally use when groundhog hunting. It's low enough I can use it off a bench, but high enough I can see over some beans when they get a bit high. But, I also carry some folding cross sticks in case I have to shoot from a sitting position. It's not as steady as a high Harris, which is what I would use if I had to shoot longer ranged shots while sitting, but it's light and cheap, since I made them myself from carbon glass arrow shafting and some hydraulic fluid tubing, shock corded together segments.

I think I had mine made before Stoney Point's version came on the market. LOL
