What cal?

Back when I was a youngster,I had a cal I wanted . Got talked out of it because of the "can't get ammo everywhere" BS.
Get what you want.
7-08 /308 are good choices in s/a.

If you don't reload, find a fac load it likes and stock up.

ive fell in love with a rem model 7 in the 7mm08 this year it is killing deer as dead as any of my other deer rifles that i own including some cannons, its light and it just kills havent worked up a load yet im shooting factory hornday 139 sst light mags and i am ever impressed with the 7mm 08 round it now seems like it is my go to gun for deer hunting it would wear a bear slap out to Ron

Sound like you want the 7-08 or the 308 and out to 300 yards, they are a wash in my opion. Both will handle any deer out to that mark with no problem. It's past that mark, that the 7mm starts to shine. The 7mm also has a little better bullet selection, but you really can't go wrong with either though. Good luck with the decision.

Sooooo many choices these days!

.270, .308, 30-06 just pick one! Since you include bear in you list I would get 30-06 or go even bigger then that. When hunting dangerous game like bear you should carry the biggest dang rifle you can shoot and a sidearm of 44cal or bigger.

No bear get a .270

a bear can attack for up to 4 minutes after being shot in the heart while it bleeds out, although most black bears are scared and will run away.

Does the size of the bear and his heart rate during this stated 4 minutes affect the actual time span..? Or is 4 minutes a pretty solid time span based on your multiple experiences..?

Just curious....

Just seen that you also included "bear" in there. I assume we are talking black bear, right? I have shot 2 black bears with a 308 using 180 gr. partition and the result were excellent. Both were on a bait site at about 75 yards. I wouldn't think twice about using the 308 or 7-08 on black bear out to 200 yards. Just make use you use the right bullet and you'll be fine.
