What do I need to make a 6.5 on Ar 15 platform?

I am pretty New at the AR game, and heard I could put a 6.5 caliber together without using an ar 10 platform. What do I need to do this that would be different from a regular 5.56 build?

6.5 Grendel, there is a pretty decent forum by that handle that will give you a lot of info. You will need a different bolt, magazine, and of course barrel. Pretty good round in my experience.

Walk away.... just walk away....

Don't listen to those voices in your head !

Yup, just a complete upper is all you need.

Kind of ironic that the ultimate "Pied Piper" of gun purchasing is telling you to ....just walk away...I have yet to hear of anyone regretting a Grendel. My 7 and 10 year old girls love mine.

That's funny !

Nothing wrong with any of them. AR's are much like potato chips, once you start you can eat/have just one.

If you want a 6.5 ,get with Mike Milli (Dtech). He can fix you up with a 6.5 DTI

Mike's CS is top notch and won't leave you hanging ,like others.....

Sure can.
It's won't be a .308 win like you are wanting. It will be short, just like the rest to fit in an AR-15 size mag. .300BlK comes to mind.

FWIW, there's also the 6.5 MPC and I believe the 6.5 TCU will work in AR's too. 223-based brass, much cheaper than the Grendel and DTI (both very good rounds) to get into, but slower than the bigger rounds also.

You will love the Grendel. Paul at Model 1 sales built an upper for me, 18" stainless fluted barrel, and shoots really well. I've shot hornady 123 vmax, precision firearms 120 nosler ballistic tip and their 130 accupoint. All 1 moa or less at 100 yds. Set up to reload it but haven't had the time.
Go to the forum at 6.5 Grendel to find out more.
Alexander Arms and Precision Firearms bought make top shelf uppers but are higher $$$$$ than a cats balancing act.
Good luck with the affliction.

Bolt, barrel, mags, and ammo. Love the Grendel. Hardly ever shoot my other ar's. 100 gr ballistic tips with benchmark running around 2700 fps, and 129 sst's with 30.5 grains of cfe do about 2650 fps. 24" tube. I'll post a pic when she comes back from cerakote.

I'd like to learn more about the Model 1 Sales. I sent you a PM but have not received an answer as yet. I looked at Model 1 Sales and did not see a 6.5 Grendel listed, and with an 18" Stainless Fluted Barrel. Inquiring minds want to know.

I would really like a 6.5 Grendel but most I see listed are out of my price range. I do not necessarily need a Target Rifle but rather want a Hunting Rifle capable of 1" or slightly less at 100 yards.
