What do you do to feed the wife and kids?

I did 13 years as a school teacher, then 20 years as a Juvenile Court Probation Officer ( a couple of those on the street as a Gang Unit Detective), now I'm a District Court Administrator (oversee the buildings for our district). Just 4 more years then hunt, fish, travel, and ride my motorcycle. Unless the wife says no. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Up to four years ago I drove truck from Seattle to Alaska and coast to coast. Now that I'm retired I work in my workshop, hunt, fish, write a few stories and take pictures. Varmit hunting is my real passion.

I've two grand daughters My wife and I are helping my son to raise. He's never been a hunter and I'm spending my full time correcting that mistake with the grand daughters.

Here's the oldest with her Christmas prestent, a Ruger #1 in 243 made in 1979. Her main goal this coming squirrel season is to outshoot Grandpa and get a bigger buck than her dad got.

Here they are at the reloading bench. Notice the binocs hanging on Kathy's neck, she's been watching a nice little buck that eats the grass in the yard across the street. She has it picked out for next deer season. She got a Remington model seven carbine in 308 for her Christmas present this year.

My wife and I are ranchers in eastern MT. We have 500 mother cows and about 36,000 acres to tend to. We still do all our work horseback here. Our 2 kids keeps us the busiest though. We will never get rich ranching but we love it dearly and would be lost if we had to do anything else.

I have several jobs:

1) main gig is managing my family's north ranch in NM. 2,000 yearlings on 28,000 acres. Winters are free so about 10 years ago, I started doing:

2) guitar repair. This keeps me so busy that I'm officially "closed" until this fall so that I can catch up on my waiting list. Plus I've got some ranch work I want to focus on this summer and I need to:

3) freelance writer. I mostly write reviews now, but I also have a book, currently in its 3rd printing that I need to revise this summer.

4) I also co-pastor my local church. I do most of the Sunday preaching, although we swap off pretty regularly. No $$$, just a labor of love.

Prior to all this, I was a wildlife biologist. My degrees (M.S.) are in that field but I quit about 12 years ago to move to the ranch. Married (21 years), 3 homeschooled kids.

I work in IT (Informaiton Technology) doing Information Security for a large healthcare company. I also specialize in UNIX consulting on the side. Computers and my passion for hunting don't mix well. I'd rather live out West in the Rockies but have to stay in the urban areas to be able to feed the family.

Furniture/cabinet maker; home inspector; small ranch, all "part" time and hunting, fishing, hiking and chasing the wife around the house. At 60, I still don't have any trouble catching her. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Sorry,

Couldn't help it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif, I'm a Pharmaceutical Sales Representative covering the Southern half of Mississippi to the Gulf Coast and the North Shore of Louisiana.

I've owned and operated a full-time taxidermy studio since 1990. A year and a half ago, I stopped taking in new work due to a divorce, and have since been managing the sports department for a local chain full-time, and catching up backlogged taxidermy accounts part-time. All in all, learned a valuable lesson... Hard work giveth, and ex-wives taketh away, lol.

Been so busy with work that play time has been put aside. I've only got to go out 5 times for yotes this year and it's really starting to bother me. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

My wife is my rock..and what was said above is very true...
"If she ain't happy, you ain't happy!"

In my line of work you need full support from the family, law enforcment has a 75% divorce rate...scary. Were going on 9 years and still moving along strong. The two kids are the hardest work at 1 and 4. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif But I love them with all my heart and they both want to go hunting as soon as they see camo.
