What do you do with the Coyote furs

Do you'all let them lay or do you sell the furs? If you sell the furs who do you sell them to? Do they have to be skinned out? Thanks

Personally, I leave the carcass wrapped up in it. Years ago you could make decent money on coyote pelts (yes, they had to be skinned, fleshed, washed, stretched etc.). My brother and I used to make a little side money trapping after work and on the wekends. But anymore it's just not worth the effort for me. One of these days if I kill a particularly nice one I may skin it with the intention of using it in some kind of mount. Other than that my advive is to snap a photo or two and leave it lay.

Ask Redfrog… he makes “barn cozies” out of em’!!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Sorry, I couldn't resist...

Seriously, find a local taxidermist and see if they are interested. They will usually give you a little for them, mine cuts me a deal on work he does. I have a nice bobcat in the freezer waiting for him to mount for me. His cost for me... the cost of the materials that he will use and that’s it! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I have had 2 tanned and the one my boy got will be shoulder mounted.

Tanning can be expensive and I suspect after a few I'll start leaving them lay. A couple guys at work said they will take one for themselves.

Also, there is a young taxidermist that said will buy my coyotes so she can mount them and sell them to steak house resturaunts.

I sell all mine. I also only hunt during the time when the fur can be sold. IMO---to leave a critter lay is kinda a waste of a resource.

skin em,flesh em ,clean em , stretch em, now you have a pelt, can be stored for up to a year i dont know where you are but in Az. we have a fur sale in Globe Az. in Feb.
if you get a fur trappers publication you can find buyers all over the U.S.this year in Globe they were going for $12.00 average not much cash for the time invested.some Bobcats brought $300 to $450 much better than a desert dog Oh and you better know how to skin em its easy to ruin a pelt.

I'll say. I got $35 for my bobcats this year. I sent a few coyotes to the buyer with neighbor who traps this weekend. I have not heard what they brought yet.

A few bobcats where around $60, but they say our cats just are not as good as western cats. Even the western Texas cats would bring 180-200. Seems a big difference to me, but the price seems consistant from one buyer to the next (only one wanted to come here, and he paid better than the one I would have to ship to).

Utah Trappers just had their sale with NAFA Coyote aver. $30.45, high $57.73. Bobcat aver.$358.56, high $693.90 and red fox aver. $24.35, high $37.35. Pretty good prices I think.

If memory serves me, seems like we were getting $35 for average pelts. Sometimes a big prime one would bring $55-$65. Bobcats got us about $300. That was nearly 30 years ago. Thanks PETA. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angry-smiley-055.gif

Hmmmm, A new member huh? What do you shoot your coyotes with? What do you hunt period? Sounds kinda fishy to me guys and gals....Big scandle goin on up here in Michigan....Domestic dogs found tapped up and beheaded, and thrown on the side of a road along with coyote and other trapped animal carcases....Peta trying to blame it on trappers....Myself and other respectful hunters/trappers claim a true hunter/trapper would never do such a thing? Remember peta workers killing the puppies....NO, NO they would never do such a thing...wouldn't do this(killing domestics animals)to start something either.

NBOOST...NO DISRESPECT!!! If you are truely a predator hunter, But you have almost no info filled out...and we have PETA spies in our Michigan fourm... this is really just a wake up to all members....be careful of what you say, it can be used against us!

Just do a search under NBOOST and you will see the predators I have taken lately with me in the picture. I don't know what you are trying to say.

Ok, im being careful with what I say, I leave em lay.......sorta . Usually in some sort of pose where are most likely to be found by other hunters. No where in the hunting regs for my state does it say I have to process a coyotes fur.

And nboost is no more a new member than you yotecaller1

I skinned my last one last Friday, unless I kill a black one or something.

I got a whopping $3 for it when the fur buyer came to town Saturday /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

That isn't worth the trouble.

I sell those that the hide buyer wants. I don't skin them, though.
As far as who to sell to in your area...check & see if there is any kind of Fur Harvesters Assn. in your state. Or if you know someone who traps, that person would be able to tell you. Just my .02.
