What do you guys think of this idea about Mosquito Creek???

I have asked the powers to be at Mosquito Creek to please change the date of the hunt to, say end of January or something to get away from this nasty weather in mid Feb.
I asked them two years in a row and they say they don't want to do that. There is no reason in my opinion that these dates are etched in stone.
My reasons were these
A lot of people cannot get into their camps this late in winter...our camp included.
It is more dangerous driving the hundred or so miles to and from many guys camps.
The actual hunting is a lot more difficult and dangerous.
Mosquito Creek club and participatants of the hunt would benifit by having more guys pay to get into it.
They are acting like big politicians...they don't listen to their constituents...us the people that keep that club going.
Finally...the coyotes don't really care when they get hunted.
If a lot of you guys feel the same way, I say we should all let them know we the hunters are not happy and to ask them in numbers to change the dates earlier. I don't know how to do a survey on the forum but someone should step up that does and post this in the form of a survey. I've said my piece. Thanks for listening. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Its fine how it is. It's in the middle of the mating season. You move it back 3 weeks and maybe they havent even started yet. The weather from Jan. 30th to Feb 17th is not that big of a difference. If the hunt is THAT big of a hassle, noone said you had to do it.

i tkink the way the hunt is now is great. it makes it the way coyotes should be hunted wading through the deep snow and trying to find ways to get to them. and you cant say that the hunt would get bigger if they moved it back, it keeps growing every year. they also have it set up so that it runs the last days of the furbear season.

It's probably also held this late because the dates you want it moved to tend to also be when most of the other club's in the state have they're hunts. That would probably actually decrease attendance for the Mosquito hunt, as people from around the state might be inclined to hunt one closer. Personally, I don't have an issue with the hunt being this late, because generally, the only people in the woods this time of year are us predator hunter's.

For what it is worth I can think of a number of reasons not to move the hunt. Although frivolous the Super Bowl is held near the end of January. But even more important pheasants, grouse, squirrels, and cottontails are still in season in certain areas but by the middle of February they are all completed.
We have had 10+ inches of snow on the ground for the last 3 weeks. Last year there was no snow on the ground for at least the first 7 hours of the hunt. This year at camp with the new snow I may be walking through 2 to 3 feet of the stuff. Don't ask me how I am going to hunt all of this snow but I will try. (If you have any suggestions then PM me). The third weekend in February will always be pot luck, but really any time from Christmas to Easter is pot luck.

We just got alot of snow here in pa and Mosquito Creek hunt is right around the corner. Will the amount of snow have a major impact on the coyotes? What calls should I try in these conditions?

The animals gonna be hungry, just think if you were shacked up and couldnt get out because you were snowed in. Its gonna be about the same for these coyotes, right about when the hunt starts they are going to be dieing for some food, and thta easy meal might get em to run in.
