Ok, after reading this. Can some of you guys post some pics of your scope bases. My Marlin only has the grooved base, and I have been thinking about actually putting a good base on it. What and how much am I looking at?

I don't know what model of Marlin you have, but mine is the 925m bolt action, and with standard scope rings on the dovetail, the bolt hits the housing of the scope and leaves a mark down the side of it. The bolt still functions, but you will just have markings on your scope. I but a weaver mount on mine and that was enough height adjustment to solve the problem.
I have 'em on my Marlin with a set of Weaver rings on top of them with a Simmons 3-9x40 and they work great.
I use these on 2 older Marlin bolt action 22 mags and they make mounting a breeze with Weaver style rings and allow plenty of room for bolt clearance and chamber access . Thet stay put once tightened down and screws locktited .
Thanks guys, I'm gonna order some of those things. I am gonna have to get a better scope to go on it as well.
I have a leupold rifleman scope on my 10/22 that I am thinking about changing out.
Cheap fixed 4X Bushnell shotgun scope. Bestest cheapest scope that I know of. No complaints as of yet. I think it is easier to make a reliable fix power.
I had a Nikon 3-9x50 but bouht a night optics night vision and it will be here Friday. If I am happy with the night vision the scope will probably be for sale.
I have been using a fixed 4X32, Nikon Prostaff for four years running behind coondogs at night and dropping the rifle many times, banging the rifle against trees, etc and it stayed in my tool box driving up and down the dirt roads...... never lost zero either.
