?What Do You Think Of Tasco Scopes On a Ruger 10/22?

I have a ruger 10/22, and i was thinking about putting a tasco 2.5-10 varmint scope on it. The scope has a mil-dot reticle. Are tasco scopes very repeatable?
I will mainly be shooting targets and maybe some small game like rock chucks and squirrels. What do you think? Should i get a different scope, i am kinda on a budget, so i dont want to spend more than like 100$, but will this scope do what i need it to do? Should i get a higher magnification?

Any comments or advice that anyone has would be great
Thanks

Something you need to think about for a scope for a 22 rifle is that most big game scopes have a hyperfocal distance of a hundred yards. Scopes designed for 22 long rifle cartridges have a hyperfocal distance set at 50 yards.

My suggestion for an inexpensive scope is one of the Cabelas's pine ridge 2 by 7 shotgun/black powder scopes. They are $70.00 from Cabela's and they hyperfocal distance is set at 50 yards. I've put 12 or 15 of these on friends 22's and they are very nice scopes for the money. They are bright and clear and the power adjustments work very smoothly and easily. They also have an excellent wide field of view on two power that is really handy when shooting at close distances with a 22 rimfire. Get your rings at Wallmart, the Simmons aluminum rings for around six bucks work very well and you can get them in both the standard 3/8th or Weaver Groved mounts.

2 by 7 or 3 by 9 power scopes is plent of power for scopes for 22 rimfires that are usually not fired at targets much past 100 yards.

My 2 cents.

One of the very best 22 Rimfire scopes for the money is the Weaver 2-7x variable that they make for 22 RF rifles. It has the parallax set for 22 rifles, and runs about $115. I have one on one of my 22 rifles, and found it clear, accurate, and very easy on the eyes.
I think there are better choices than Tasco scopes for 10-22's. I have eight 10-22's and have used lots of different scopes on them.

I have a Bushnell Sportsman 3-9 w/target turrets and AO. Very clear, good in low-light and cost was low (75.00 range). Bought both rifle and scope 4yrs ago and has been very dependable/accurate. Yes, the target turret system is repeatable....I use it to stretch the range of the .22LR.

I would put it on. Tasco might not be the best scope in the world, or as good as a couple these guys have mentioned, but it should work fine on your .22. You already have it , use it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

My 10/22 with a heavy Butler Creek barrel has a Tasco 4x16 mag IV AO scope on it. That is one of the old, before they went bankrupt scopes. I couldn't ask for a better scope for my intended uses, targets and ground squirrels. One of my favorite things to do at the range is shoot out to 100 yards with standard velocity ammunition, on a fairly clear sheet of paper in bright sun light. At 16x it is no problem to pick up the bullet in the air at about 75 yards, at about 90 yards the bullets shadow appears on the white paper, when the shadow and bullet meet theres a hole then the sound of the bullet hitting the paper. I love it! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Sorry, I forgot to mention that the scope has an adjustable objective. So about the "Hyperfocal distance" it can adjust down to 50 yards, so i dont think that it would be a problem.

I have a simmons 3-9x32 on my 10/22, I don't use "22" scopes, cause I sometimes shoot alot farther and I don't want no "22 scope" messin up my long range 22 shooting. Sometimes the rabbit you see is 100-150 yards away. Rather I see a rabbit at 50 yards or 200 yards I'm shootin at it.
