What Gram of Thinsulate do you wear in your boots?

i use 600 grams all winter.
i've tried 800 but it makes my feet sweat
i have to use gore tex to keep my feet dry cuz of sweat
i have worn boots completely out and the gortex liners still hold water out but the gortex will start to stink like sweaty feet so i get new ones every year before hunting season.
i ruin boots in about 5 months no matter how much i pay for them. wet concrete eats all the threads and they come un sewed.

My deep winter boots have 1200 grams, My everyday hunting boots have 400 grams. Then of course I have my Sorrels on top of those.

I'm gonna try uninsulated ones this year with Arctic Shield boot warmers. Hoping that combo will work better than getting them hot/sweaty on the walk to stand. I'll post back after the weekend to say how it goes. Not gonna be real cold though, lows in the 20's.

Hehe, I hear ya. But it doesn't seem to want to get cold around here this year. I'll be deer hunting with long sits this weekend, so I'll at least be able to tell something. Thats usually when my feet get cold, long walk in followed by a long sit.

Boots rank 2nd only to my rifle. Do not economize if you plan to do much walking. Fit of a boot is most important. I may try on 10 to 12 pair of boots before buying. Boot sizing vary from different brands. Do not make the mistake of thinking ill fitting boots will break in. They might after many blisters and days of walking. If you try on a pair of boots , use the socks you plan to wear hunting. I find that 600 grams of thinsulate is not enough for stump sitting in 30 degrees and colder weather. 800 grams should be about right for all around hunting walking and sitting. Sorrel pack boots worked well for me trudging the snow cap mountains of Colorado. Bought an extra pair of boot liners and would alternate liners from day to day . That was over 20 years ago. Don't know what kind of boots Sorrel makes today.

800gr irish setters for coyote hunting no matter what the temos are when 30* and below. For sitting still for long periods of time in the cold weather, its going to be 1200gr boots.
