What happens when you forget to take the laser bore sighter out? (Pics)

Hmmmm I don't know...

Seeing those other pictures doesn't make it look as if it were "cut and pulled back" to me. Maybe my BS antenna needs sighting in itself? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

First time I saw the rifle on another forum first thing that came to mind was....this is not all together correct looking.

If there was enough pressure to split a barrel like that (never mind having a bore sighter loosely in the bore end) why wasnt the action and stock mangled??

Not getting into shooting physics but there were many an occasion for muzzleloading guys shooting a ramrod down range with a red face being the only danger.

What everyone here could be failing to see is a flaw in the metal used to create the barrel to begin with that when exposed to just enough extra pressure, it burst at the seams....

I still don't think a single rifle cartridge has enough energy to come even close to doing that to 4140 steel. PLUS the bore sighter was allegedly shot 100 yards down range so apperantly not all the energy went straight back to peel the barrel. I would think it would take a healthy chunk of C4 in a directional charge to do that and then again, there is no way it could be that uniform.

I'm not calling anyone a liar since everyone has gottent his second hand but I think somebody got tricked!

My BS meter is waving back and forth too.

When rifles blow up, this is what I have seen.

Now Mythbusters don't always get things right either, so I cannot vouch for the thoroughness of their test. Just the other night, they were trying to duplicate the bullet thru the scope sniper legend, and they failed to get it to go thru. First, I didn't look like they were using an '06 which Carlos Hathcock used (Hathcock was mentioned in the re-telling of the legend). Also, they were using modern scopes which have more lenses inside than scopes used in days gone past.

Add me to the skeptics list..............
