What has your experience been with the .221 Fireball?

Got one in a Remmy 700 Classic. Like it so much, my predator hunting partner just bought a 221 FB barrel for his Encore, he loves it too.

I have a 221 Fireball in a CZ 527. I love the cartridge and the gun. Just about the perfect combination. I have had a 220 Swift, 22-250, .243 Win, several .223's and a .204 Ruger. I didn't dislike any of them but I would never part with the Fireball. Mine loves a 40 grain VMax with 16 grains of Lil Gun powder. Accuracy is awesome and it also gives top velocity at 3565 fps.

There are a LOT of coyote hunters in this area that like the 221 and 17 Furballs. Some have the CZ rifles and some have custom guns. Quite a few rebarreled Savage or Stevens rifles. I got me Stevens in 223 at a Nashville gun show that I am going to buy me a Adams and Bennett 221 barrel for. I got the brass and the dies ordered so hopefully it wont be long and I have me one of those nifty little Furballs to play with too.

Alot have commented on how quiet this cartridge is.I suppose compared to a .22-250.How about the Hornet? Why replace a .223 barrelled Stevens if the .223 can be loaded down to the same velocities, not to high-jack or anger anyone, I just need to be educated I suppose.

Hope that wasn't done here in NY... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Rifles + turkeys / New York State = game violation...

I tryed four different 22 hornets and never did find one that would shoot under an inch consistently.

I know of five different Browning Micro Hunter A Bolts in 22 Hornet that shot under an inch out of the box. Try using the factory Hornady 35 gr V-Max in a Browning Hornet. Bet you dinner you will be pleased.
