What in your opinion is the best animal to hunt?

Ab bentley is correct. People provide the best chance to test yourself. Most will be easy, some will take you through [beeep] and high water.

A few will turn the hunt on you. However not only do you get to hunt, you get paid for it. Talk to your local bail bondsman.
 
simple its what is ever in season and for SC there is no season on coyotes , beavers and hogs .

A dog chasin a deer in Pa is not only illegal, but frowned upon by other hunters.

Most likely Fido would not make it home if it chased tails in Penn's Woods.


It ain't no diffrent than chasin any other animal with dogs you should come down and check it out it seems like alot of people want to try and call a ballgame from the stands when someone brings up deer hounds and any person that would kill someones pet doesn't even deserve to be able to enjoy the outdoors they need to be in a padded room for their personal saftey my beagles might as well be a part of my family and don't nobody mess with my family

Obviously it is legal in Va - so no harm, no foul.

I, personally would not shoot a dog chasing a deer, but I know a few folks who would - regardless of whether the dog had a collar or not.

I guess their argument(and the PGC) is that chasing deer with dogs is indeed different from chansing any other animal. A deer does not have the endurance to run long distances like dogs, they can't run to their burrow like a rabbit, to their hole like a fox, or to the skies like a bird.

Different strokes for different states.

I go out a couple of times in late winter with a guy that has beagles. I do enjoy watching them tails flush the brush for rabbits, and when they start hootin & hollerin it is quite a show..
 
Waterfowl, doves and small game.
Predators, large game.
I cut my hunting teeth on doves when I was just big enough to walk.
I grew up by the bay so my dad and grandfather got me hooked on waterfowl when I started shotting a 410.
Have you ever tryed shot doves or ducks with a 410 yeah right talk about hard.

My first ducks (greenwing teal) was with a .410. lil fb's first kill was a dove with the same .410. That little bolt .410 has killed it's share of small game. Lots of rabbits and squirrels.
 
It used to be deer, then it was turkeys, now coyotes gives me the biggest rush.
Turkeys might stll be on my list, but after breaking my back, the walking associated with turkey hunting makes that too painful. Lots of walking usually.
I have never, but would like to call in a fox. We have so few I wouldn't shoot one unless I knew someone who would have it mounted.

Anyone that wants can have all the B+C . Deformed looking chicken bears that get shot at 200 or more yards. .
I'll take a 9' boar at less than 50 feet. In really thick brush. With the leaves still on and the grass still green. ..... that is true dangerous game hunting.

.2nd would be hunting packs of wolves.

Waterfowl, doves, and coyotes. Whichever is the hottest action at that point gets the nod. Love morning coyotes and evening Geese. Waterfowl goes way back in my family and I had good training. Coyotes Im learning on my own and its a unique challenge so Im spending more and more time on them
 
Am I the only one surprised that coyote being so low on everyone's list? Well I am coming from an island with zero big game, no turkeys, pheasant, winged bigfoot, javelina etc. Well we can shoot ravens.
 
Displayed, I think it is a matter of coyotes coming to many of us later than guys out west. There was no sense in coyote hunting around here until into the 90's. By that time, I had plenty of other hunting habits to keep me busy. Middle age and disposable income got me started hunting coyotes, I needed a use for the guns and camoflage left over from other seasons. Now it is an addiction, but a recent one.

@ FrozenButt, I had that same saucer eyed look last weekend! I can cuss those laughing birds a lot better now than when I was a kid though.

I grew up in the western half of the state where a dog running a deer was not only illegal, but a dead dog in most circles. I joined a few hunt clubs east of the Blue Ridge mountains where it is not only legal to chase, but expected. The territory is different there and most of the areas are shotgun only, flat and scrubby areas. I actually get a thrill out of hearing beagles run deer in late season after I'm burned out on hunting the bigger mountains from a stand all day. Beagles are great as they only bust the deer out of the thickets, they never really catch up to anything. Most of the ones I've hunted around will chase the scent while the deer circles them and looks at them from 50yds away. It comical sometimes. The thing I never got use to was the less sporting dogmen that used long legged hounds on the lease I use to belong to. They would bring deer down and some of the guys would just keep throwing dogs on them until the deer couldn't run any more. Some shot whatever ran out and if it was an illegal doe, so be it. Some would have a youth hunter check it in, some would leave it lay, some sneak them home. I didn't care much for that kind of chase, but that is what they do, so I just dropped my membership and moved on. It's about time for my neighboring leases to start running their beagles, my current lease doesn't allow dogs, but I will sit on our lease and listen to them and hopefully they stir the pot in my favor this year.
