What ir light for the photon xt?

Kevin at HTRN has a very nice 850nm light called the Infinity that is powerful, compact, has focusable zoom, and most importantly has complete rheostat control from 0% to 100%.

Like most everyone with NV equipment, I have several lights. Seems like I keep collecting them for some reason.

Evolva Future Technology Lens Infrared Flashlight IR T67 67mm Night Vision Torch Light - Infrared

got it on amazon and it works pretty well and is very reasonably priced

i used it the other week to shoot a coyote at 150 yards and had no problem seeing it and that was with the lens cap on the photon down but with the center circle out

What is the purpose of keeping the lens cap closed at night? Is it to cut down on white outs? Is it better this way than with the cap open?

Interesting, I never tried that. I will give it a try, sometimes my illuminator is too bright. Thanks

Just punch out the small cap in the center of the lens cover and that will give you a good view with your IR light at night. Completely open will not be focused properly or clear as DoubleUp mentioned.

As to lights, I too have more than I need, but currently I am really liking the TR-38 light (not T-38) that I got from the UK, and I am using a 940nm pill in it. It's good for at least 100 yards in the woods. Before that I was using a T-20 with 850nm.

The Photon is so light-sensitive that a GOOD 940nm light will work very well. I ordered one from China for $28 just to try that isn't good for much unless you like paper weights. The TR series lights are good.

The hole(s) in the cap act as the aperture setting like the lens on a SLR camera. It increases or decreases your depth of field. The small hole has the greatest depth of field but lets in the least amount of light. No lens cap has the smallest depth of field and lets in the most light. The punch out is a compromise in the middle.

Their are some guys over in the UK who have made up an adapter, removed the existing photon lens and replaced it with a camera lens are getting good results, but the warranty is voided.

I'm running an 850NM out of a 50mm zoom light and have no trouble seeing farther than I care to shoot. The brighter the IR the farther you can see but it also reflects any ground cover between you and your target. A clean low cut field you can see a long way. Corn stubble reflects a lot of light.

"Corn stubble reflects a lot of light." That is a mouthful Pmack. Cornfield stubble cost me at least 4 coyotes with the Photon last year.
