i have a foxpro wildfire. I usually use lightning jack, baby cottontail, or some other jack distress sound i cant recall right now. I have called one coyote in with this call since ive been back, almost 1yr. I have gone out about 12 times. Im just wondring what sounds you guys are using. Is it me or is it the foxpro that sucks hahha. I feel i did better with hand calls but hate not using this 200 call. Help me out!

Think about what's native. It sounds like mr. miagi but you hafta be the coyote. Spring they are protecting pups, go pup distress. This time of year is mating season make coyote sounds. Calling a semi suburban area, kitten distress, nothing says snack time like kitten distress.

Last year, Jackrabbit distress & Lightning Jack were my go-to calls, and probably my most successful. This year, I have been in the same boat as you, Ive had a lot less luck with the rabbit calls.

I do agree with Kevin though, especially if you're still not getting anything to come in- use some coyote calls. Last week, I actually got 2 to come in with coyote locater then the male yip call.

Pup distress, vocalizations, rodent, bird sounds, some times you have to think outside the box and you will come across sounds that work in your area. I know it stinks but it will get better and you will look back on this dry spell and smile. Keep the FoxPro and mix it up with some hand calls.

I have been 12 times without seeing any as well before, it happens. not what you wanted to hear I know. example of going with something other than the norm. I always like to use adult cottontail, pup distress, female whimper, etc. that has worked before. just the other day after an hour set, getting furious had some turkeys talking in the distance so I decided to mess with them and try to get them to come in. did some yelps and five minutes later had a pair coming right in. another example is numerous times had the foxpro whaling and coyotes were hung up wouldn't come in, I try the mouth call and most times on a string they will commit. I don't know what it is diff sound, pitch who knows but has definitely worked when the other was not. I am having real good luck with mouth calls right now. as stated above if you can practice on a mouth call then try it hunting, I believe it will compliment your foxpro

J N,,,I have to ask...Are you seeing any signs they are in the area to begin with?? Like scat, kill remains of mice, etc...??...It's hard to call in something that's just not there..I'm sure they are in the state but may not be in the immediate area you are calling for a variety of reasons...

I love baybee cottontail for a distress, for something different try hairy woodpecker 2, or prairie dog distress (even if you have none.)

For this time of year if you want to try vocals, I love the submissive female. That will get males and females all kinds of fired up.

Another good idea would be to go to Tony Tebbe's website and download some of his free sounds. The TT cottontail extreme and tt cowtip cottontail have called a lot of dogs in for me. and his TT breeding coyotes and tt coyote fight will bring out some territorial males pretty quickly and angrily.

More importantly, make sure your hunting where there are coyotes and focus on your walk in and set up and make sure your not getting busted before you put the call on the ground.

Every state, every set of woods and without any doubt every coyote is different. when yots get closer to breeding they react to yote calls, lots of snow they come in hard to any distress call, they have to eat. No matter what you decide to do DON'T GIVE UP!!! You'll find the right combo. Good Luck.

Distressed calf has been working for me, I have been calling on a lot of local ranches lately.
